In this land, there exists a bird called a Zhen. Thanks to the bird's appetite for toxic foods, poison amassed inside the bird's body changes its color, creating beautiful, vibrant wings. The strength of the poison is the pride of the Zhen. However, unaware of the danger, people became attracted to the beauty of these wings and owning the exquisite birds became a status symbol. Cai Hong, who is reputed to be the most beautiful Zhen, and General Fei, whose elder brother was killed by Cai Hong's poison, find themselves intermingled in a love-hate, animalistic Yaoi fantasy!

The story is truly exceptional and wonderfully unique. The art is amazing which gives depth to the plot. Highly recommend!!

This manga has amazing art and an interesting story line. Every panel is intricately drawn with excellent detail. The story is fairly compelling, and it explores the theme of finding happiness in a tragic situation. There were a couple of reasons why I rated it as a "like it" rather than "love it". The Zhen are captives and treated as sub-human, basically slaves dependent on the whims of their owners, which made certain parts of the plot extraordinarily sad and difficult for me to read. Also, though the art is done with a great amount of skill, there were some panels of Cai Hong that I found a bit...unsettling, I guess, because of his animal nature. However, both of these are more a matter of personal preference than actual flaws per se, and overall I think it is very well-written and enjoyable.

Summary: When they were young, Fei and his brother Lan raised Zhen: beautiful and dangerous bird-men with extravagant plumage highly valued by their society. Fei left that life behind and joined the army, but after Lan's death, he returns home to accept authority over Cai Hong, the Zhen who killed his brother. Though Fei is tempted to take revenge for his brother's death, he allows Cai Hong to be purchased by his army superior, who unfortunately soon orders Fei to care for Cai Hong. Fei is at first reluctant, but the more he learns about the bird-man, the stranger it seems that Cai Hong would have killed Lan. Fei feels drawn to the Zhen, but will he be able to discover the truth about the past and find a way to free Cai Hong from his bondage?

Beautiful art, and the story is so good! But the art is sublime, really enjoying this author's work. Definitely will look for more.

Interesting story and premise with a very lovely art style, intricate but clean. I really wish this had a print version so I could physically own it.

A wonderful story. It could only be better had it been in full color. Loved it!
