Seanan McGuire is a native Californian, which has resulted in her being exceedingly laid-back about venomous wildlife, and terrified of weather. When not writing urban fantasy (as herself) and science fiction thrillers (as Mira Grant), she likes to watch way too many horror movies, wander around in swamps, record albums of original music, and harass her cats.

Seanan is the author of the October Daye, InCryptid, and Indexing series of urban fantasies; the Newsflesh trilogy; the Parasitology duology; and the "Velveteen vs." superhero shorts. Her cats, Lilly, Alice, and Thomas, are plotting world domination even as we speak, but are easily distracted by feathers on sticks, so mankind is probably safe. For now.

Seanan's favorite things include the X-Men, folklore, and the Black Death. No, seriously. She writes all biographies in the third person, because it's easier that way.

Seanan McGuire writes a relatable and true-to-character Kitty Pryde and (in a brief appearance) Ororo Munroe. I won’t go into details since comics are short enough that any info could be spoilery. I’ll just say that this was an eventful summer camp for teenaged Kitty. The story is fun and full of heart. The art fits well; I enjoyed the youthful vibe. I grew up with these characters during Chris Claremont’s run but lost interest in the mid-90s. It’s nice to see what one of my favorite authors can do with my favorite characters!

An annual where we get a past glimpse of Kitty Pryde before she was headmistress and just the younger sister of the X-men! Her adventure is in camp where she will learn that just because you leave "work" behind doesn't mean it goes away, no matter where you go.

This was actually a decent issue; shows how far Kitty has come from her teenager years.

McGuire has long been in a class by herself, but what she does in this short form is truly exceptional. There are so many, many layers to unpack in what she's written that I know I'll be rereading this for years to come. I cannnot WAIT to see what she does with Spider Gwen/ Ghost Spider, and I hope she gets to play in the X-Men sandbox forever. I would pay good money to see her take on Jean or Emma.

...but liked this view of an accomplished teen mutant grappling with her identity. The great twist was a "celebrity" trying to be something more "normal".

A fun episode of X-men. It’s been long time since I read an X-men comic. When I saw that Seanan McGuire was the author, I had to check it out.

As a kid who grew up othered, this comic was incredibly poignant and even painful at times. It made me cry, but only the best stories ever do. Kitty's an iconic character and the chance to delve into her formative years, written by someone who can treat the story with both the microscope and the compassion that the X-universe warrants, was excellent. I want more.

The writing debut of Seanan McGuire in an X-Men comic brings us a stand alone Kitty Pride story.

Kitty takes some time away from the X-men and goes off on a summer adventure.

A nice stand-alone story starring Kitty.

I loved it and I hope Seanan writes a many many more comics for Marvel.
