The Amazon reviews for "Who is Wonder Woman?" "Love and Murder" and "Amazons Attack!" made these books look pretty bad, so I just skipped them. (I've just recently ordered "Who is Wonder Woman?" to see for myself just how bad it is.)
Some things that must have happened: apparently, what was "wrong" (according to whom?) with Wonder Woman was that she "wasn't human enough", so DC decided she should have a secret identity: Diana Prince. And she would have two bodies: the unpowered Diana Prince body and the super-powered Wonder Woman body (so, she's Captain Marvel.). Diana Prince would wear glasses and work for the Department of Metahuman Affairs with Tom Tresser (a.k.a. Nemesis). Athena has removed all the Amazons off of Themyscira with the exception of Hippolyta (who is alive again) and four others, and created a barrier to keep the Amazons from returning.
When DC gave WW to Gail Simone, they wouldn't let her just scrap all of this, but she managed to write good stories under these limitations regardless.
14-17 (art mostly by Terry and Rachel Dodson) Not everyone on Themyscira rejoiced when Diana was originally created (meaning her as an infant, not this Diana Prince business). The four members of Hippolyta's personal guard disagreed. The Secret Society of Supervillains has made about a hundred soldiers with Captain Nazi's powers, who are now invading a mostly empty Themyscira. WW asks gods from various pantheons to help her pass through Athena's barrier and finally gets help from the Polynesian god Kane Miohai. What follows are various battles between Wonder Woman, the super-nazis, Hippolyta, the four guards, and several intelligent white-furred gorillas who used to work for Grodd but are now loyal to WW (oh, I forgot to tell you about them, didn't I?)
18-19 (art mostly by Bernard Chang) WW heads off into space to protect the homeworld of the Khunds? Chang has not yet developed the style he later uses in the "new 52" Wonder Woman issues.
Also, Wonder Woman is now courting Tom Tresser.
All in all, a good start. Diana is talking more like a "regular human;" I suppose it's all part of her Diana Prince disguise.
Edit: Whoops, that's embarrassing. Cliff Chiang is the main artist on the Azzarello run, not Bernard Chang.
I won't give the story away. I'll just say that most of it takes place on Themiscira and Queen Hypolyta has a large part and guess what? She is actually written in character this time (will wonders never cease?)! Princess Diana also seems to have returned to her roots, finding ways to be compassionate and loving and also a kick ass warrior when the need arises. This story marks the return of a familiar and much missed vulnerability to the character but also never-dying courage and strength, which is the way it ought to be. Thanks to Gail Simone for knowing the characters and keeping them true!
There is one part of the story that surprised me- again, I do not want to give too much away but at one point Diana decides to forgo her allegiance to Athena and dedicate herself to a god from a different pantheon. At first, I was a bit shocked by this but considering everything that has happened to the Greek gods of late I eventually decided that, yes, it made absolute sense for her to do it. Once again, I give a lot of credit to Simone for understanding the character and her motivations.
This is Wonder Woman at her best and I recommend it.
At this time in DC history, Diana works for the government investigating the same type of villains Wonder Women would. In attempting to understand humanity better, Diana goes without her powers during the day. But when she uses them, she proves herself as the Goddess she is. Simone displays her tactical brilliance and her diplomacy skills at the same time, showing Wonder Woman as she as meant to be. This is shaping up to be the best Wonder Woman title ever.
The first arc in the book is about 4 renegade Amazons who take the shadowside of Athena to a chilling conclusion. These 4 will do anything to defend the Amazon civilization from what they see as its greatest fear, a child. But strangely, because human they be, they yearn for a baby girl themselves.
This is a story that tells of a daughter and how far she will go to help her mother and her land. This is a story that shows the power of Mercy and Diana at her finest as warrior and diplomatic. A top notch story and very worth picking up for your shelves.

These are qualities that makes Wonder Woman, the much loved superhero that fans, like myself have come to love. One of the fun things I've learned about Wonder Woman in this book, is that she also likes birthday cake. In one of the panels you can see Diana munching away on a piece of birthday cake.
The artwork is beautiful too. Terry & Rachel Dodson provide the artwork in most of the issues, collected together in volume 1. The artwork in the last 2 issue's, is illustrated by Bernard Chang. Who does a pretty decent job
With the artwork, but, I do prefer Terry & Rachel Dodsons illustrations of Wonder Woman. They make Diana look not only stunningly beautiful, but, also make her look like truly powerful force of nature.
Can't wait to read volume 2.
