I love this series. Too bad its come to an end...

I'm sad to see this story ending. It is unique, and it mirrors the dilemma of today - when old people (like me) won't get out of the way of the young.
At my age, it is silly to collect comics anymore given the clutter. For the most part, I've trimmed down to only my silver age favorites.
But I broke my rule about no new comics for all of Wayward.
Give yourself a treat!

Sixth and final volume in the series of paperbacks that collect issues of the comic 'Wayward' an urban fantasy story set in present day Japan, where teens with special abilities battle old gods and other creatures.

This contains issues twenty six to thirty of the series. Thirty was the last one, and brings the story to a close. let's just say it's a proper ending, not one that leaves loose ends or sets up sequels.

Despite this volume containing a 'previously' note at the beginning to summarise what went before, and some exposition at the start to remind you who the characters are, this is clearly not a jumping on point. New readers should start with volume one.

As with other volumes, this contains strong language and violence, so it's not for younger readers.

This one does use chapter pages, so you can see where one issue ends and another begins.

After the end of book five, people have been reunited. Rori and friends have but one chance to win. A chance that is very dangerous. And not everyone might walk away...

This is a highly satisfying end. Not just thanks to the typically beautiful and eye catching art and colour, but because it has done a great job of making you care about these characters. Thus there's real jeopardy here as at any moment, you think they might not survive, and you really want to know if they will.

It's also incredibly epic, with action that even a big budget movie might struggle to emulate.

And there's some great philosophy here as well, with some interesting questions for the reader to consider, which are the heart of the whole story. It does make you think rather than lecture, so that's good writing.

It's an excellent end to what has been an amazing series, and whilst you will be sorry to see it go, you will be left glad that got the chance to read it.

The volume ends, like the others, with a few notes about Japan and it's legends. The first of these is very interesting as it talks about some rather recent ones. Then there are some creator notes which are worth a look. And two pin ups that really do work very well, as a way of saying goodbye.
