"Flash" Thompson, high school bully and disabled military veteran, performs another duty for his country as he's given the unknown symbiote suit "Venom" in order to perform secret tasks for the government. The first: find a shipment of weaponized Antarctic Vibranium that is being used against UN forces and villages. The new incarnation of Venom must now stop Jack O' Lantern and Crime Master and this special bullets before they wreak havoc on New York City. However, things get personal when Flash's girlfriend is involved and Flash must battle demons of his past with his alcoholic father!

This is a truly fabulous story here. This hardcover book collects the first 5 issues of the series and they are really a hard-hitter. It also contains the variant covers as well as page sketches and textless covers. The action's top-notch with Jack O' Lantern getting his face blown off and lots of new, more uniform Venom and older, more crazy and gooey Venom taking the helm at times. The story, written by Rick Remender, is really well done and the art by tony Moore and Tom Fowler are stupendous! Venom really pops off the pages and the detail is amazing! The fact that Flash can only control the Venom suit for so long before it takes over adds an element of nervousness to each issue and the bit about Flash's dad is really touching and depressing at the same time and will draw you in just as much as watching the new Venom and Spider-Man strap it on! This is a story you can't miss and a really overdue one since it overshadows all the Venom solo stories before it!

I've never ready a comic book before, but love the movies. This was great and a fun introduction to the world of comics

When I first got into comics several months ago, I read a lot about how great Rick Remender's work in comics is, specifically on UNCANNY X-FORCE and VENOM. So I decided to try X-Force out, and I loved it. Now, when I decided to give Venom a spin, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical. Would Remender's work on one of Spider-Man's most formidable nemeses measure up to his writing for the covert team of do-or-die X-Men?

Yes. Yes, it would.

Venom is awesome. It's great, simply great. This is unlike any Venom I've ever seen or read about before. The story is original and engaging, Flash Thompson (with all his issues and complexities) is an interesting and likable protagonist, and there's a very nice balance between explosive action and dramatic, more character-driven development in the story. Flash's struggle to keep the symbiote under control while performing his duties, as well as being restricted by the rules and regulations of his superiors in the U.S. government, add a fresh and fascinating twist to the usual superhero fare. Issue #3 was the high point of this volume for me, but the whole thing certainly made me a fan of this series and hungry for more.

I was directed to this comic by the Wednesday Warriors (the men of a great podcast called fight for comics). I was told that this is a true tale of addiction, dependence, and just good old creepy fun. I bought it hoping for the above and got it plus a great story!

The villian in this book is the best I have seen in a long time and am counting down the days until the second trade comes out. Who doesn't love an evil man with a burning jack-o-lantern head who rides around on a broom causing death and destruction? It is fun to see venom as a hero, and even more fun to watch as the symbiote and man become one.

I loved this book.

Rick Remender created this graphic novel with so many different action sequences, situations, against so many opposing venom characters in diverse settings that it really makes it difficult to set it down for even a one min bathroom break or etc.! If you're a venom/spidey fan its a great buy. Although, for me personally, I had just read the Venom v.s. Carnage graphic novel the day before and even though the story was not quite as full-filling as this, I enjoyed it a little better simply because I like that relationship between carnage and venom so much. As in this book it involves the jack o lantern and the fly...maybe its just me though lol. I give this book 4.5 stars!

Way better a hero with things to make up and other heroes thinking Venom is completely a bad guy. Well written great art and before you know it it is over and you don't want this wild ride to keep on going.

A different, but still enjoyable, Venom. I remember reading these comics years ago. I loved the different version of Venom. And that he goes on to join the Guardians of the Galaxy. A lot of complex, human issues explored by Rick Remender.

Warning this is not part of the " complete collection"
It's a great comic, great stories. I however was looking for the entire store and got this and vol 2 "the complete collection" and this vol 1 gets me about halfway to where vol 2 starts off.

3.0 out of 5 stars Le début des aventures du nouveau Venom
