WOW!!
This graphic novel blew my mind!
Graphic is a brilliant word to describe Starblood, because it was indeed graphic- and I loved it!!
If you think of graphic novels as comics, buy this, read it and and have your mind changed..
A wicked story line, which kept me totally interested, awesome graphics which kept me enthralled..
Magic and horror an awesome mix and Carmilla Voiez got it spot on!
I hesitated to buy this novel as the price was $4.99US, convert that to Australian $ and it is up around the $9 mark, but I am glad I bit the bullet and got it as it was worth every single cent!!!!
I would highly recommend this to anybody who is 18+ and loves horror and magic..
Wickedly good!!!!

I hardly ever read graphic novels, but wanted to give this one a try when it was offered to me. I absolutely loved the art in this novel. I was interested to see which direction the author would take the story. What I liked the most were the characters: Satori, Star and Lilith. All three were very complicated characters. I especially enjoyed Lilith's dark and twisted actions. She is a very evil demon and that is shown really well in this novel. She is also a very sensual and sexual creature and uses that greatly to her advantage. It wasn't difficult for her to ensnare Star into her world. What I didn't like as much was that it felt like I was dropped in the middle of the story, there wasn't a lot of back story and everything also felt a bit rushed. I needed more character development, especially for the relationship of Star and Satori. Also not having read that many graphic novels before, it was sometimes hard for me to figure out the right order of the dialogue. Overall it was an okay read for me, but I am curious to see what will happen next.

I read the original novel, and I was very curious to get into the graphic novel. Like its source, it doesn't pull any punches. I enjoyed the tale a second time around, and I enjoyed seeing the artwork. For those more into such media, I would very much recommend it. The story is a rich delve into a seductively dangerous, gothic world of social bickering, jealousy, and magick. It feels to me like a modern myth, the seeds of contemporary folklore germinating from obvious historical influences. There are many journeys depicted here, both physical and mental, and it is worth the ride.

This Graphic novel was amazing. I have read Starblood the Complete Triology but this graphic novel was wonderful and to read and see the beautiful graphics has made this one of my favorite books. I was so impressed with reading this book it only took me two days to read because it took me with her on this journey with Lillith and Satori. I do not give any give any spoilers in any of my reviews but I must tell you to run and buy this book immediately. It was beautiful, magical, and one amazing ride!!!

I made it through about ten pages of this graphic novel before I had to give up on it. The story and art weren't enticing enough for me to hassle with the formatting problem. You can't go panel by panel like most modern graphic novels read on Kindle, and for this reason it was a mistake for me to purchase it. The cover influenced me but the art and story inside just don't match at all. Two stars primarily for the cover art.

I loved this Starblood mixed with an erotic and gothic horror tale. I recommend to read an Ebook of Starblood (The Starblood Trilogy) before to read Starblood: The Graphic Novel. I love the characters and the art works. Carmilla and Anna did an amazing job.

I am not sure what to say. I couldn’t stop reading, but I was never sure what to expect. Often I was confused at what was going on. By the end I finally got who was what in the book, but it was still kind of different.

Graphic novels, when they work well, are a marvelous way to tell a story.

Within the pages of the graphic novel, the character must be larger-than-life, enough so that he or she can be instantly recognizable and identifiable so as to guide the reader through the story. Combine this with a talented artist, (kudos to Starblood artist Anna Prashkovich – she absolutely nails it!) who plays an equally crucial role adding dimension and structure to the character quite literally with lines and shadow, and you have the makings of a story befitting of this format.

Enter Starblood, a dark fantasy story from author Carmilla Voiez. Right off the bat I have to tell you that this genre, while featuring horror elements, is not particularly my cup of potion, as it were. That being said, I am glad the author introduced me to her story in the graphic novel format, as I likely would not have enjoyed this book as a traditional novel. Why? Mainly because of the reasons stated above. It’s just not my genre, folks.

Yet Starblood, I’m happy to say, works well as a graphic novel. The story lends itself nicely to a visual format, and the artwork is first-rate! And there are LOADS of horror elements that are skillfully illustrated, reminding me of the old EC comics that inspired publications such as the notable (and splattery!) indie anthology Gore Shriek.

In Starblood, Lilith, the “mother of demons,” is summoned by Satori, a Chaos Magician in an effort to reunite with his long lost love, Star. Lilith’s priorities differ from Satori’s, however, and upon arrival into Satori’s realm, Lilith is hell-bent on destroying the lad’s life – as well as the lives of pretty much everyone he knows! And Lilith is one mother of a demon – using her intentionally phallic blade to dispatch male enemies with a ferocity that makes Xena: Warrior Princess look like Dora the Explorer. Starblood reads like a feminist activist’s rage-driven manifesto. Some readers might find this approach too heavy-handed, but wasn’t a problem for me.

There were elements of the overall story and plot that confounded me, requiring some investigation and re-reading in order to resolve, not to mention the characters having more than one name. The latter is not uncommon in the fantasy genre, but the former is a problem for me, as any time spent outside of a story makes it harder to then re-engage with the plot.

Did I mention sex? There’s tons of sex to accompany the manhood-destroying violence, which is why Starblood is not for readers under eighteen. This combination of sex and violence reminded me of the animated Heavy Metal movie from back in the 80’s, and if you were into that, you’ll enjoy this foray into dark, gothic fantasy. It’s cool to see an indie graphic novel that looks this good, as they are very difficult to produce in a quality fashion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping read - great art - great text!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 10, 2018
I have read many graphic novels, Starblood is the first I have reviewed… so here goes.

Starblood is the story of three principle characters – Star, Sartori and Lilith.

Satori is a chaos magician, who in an effort to win back Star, summons Lilith. I’m not going to cover anything more in the story; you need to discover it.

I think Starblood works because the characters are both realistic and flawed. This comes out through both the text and the artwork. If you take Satori – he is very much a hapless hero. I feel Satori never meant any real harm in summoning a demon. He was acting for selfish reasons, but I think he got more than he bargained for in Lilith. He is also genuine in his intent to make things right and this grows in a need to save Star.

Now Star. Star is a lost soul, she does not seem to know who she really is or what she really wants. Star makes some big mistakes which kind of drive her forward. Star is likable, she is not a character without hope although at times she appears to be hopeless. Like Satori you want her to come through this.

Lilith is uber-cool. She does not suffer fools gladly (especially foolish blokes, take note fellas!). Although she’s the antagonist in the story, I would not describe her as evil; she is angry and sometimes seems a little bored. In fairness I think the ideas of “good” and “evil” are not applicable to the Starblood.

One final point on story. Most graphic novels tend to rely on art and speech bubbles, with minimal supporting text. There are several points in Starblood where we traditional prose comes in. It works really well and adds real depth to the story. I suspect this is due to the original story being a novel. I would love to see more of that in graphic novels.

Let’s talk about art.

I love the artwork in this book. It does that wonderful trick of balancing simplicity with complexity. All the characters have real personality, you can read their emotions and understand them.

All of the imagery is cool – you’ll find you favourites. I really loved the image of Star and Lilith silhouetted against a backdrop of fireworks.

Okay, you need to know Starblood has a lot of adult themes. In Starblood just about everyone gets naked with just about everyone else and there are a few violent scenes. I can’t see any of these scenes phasing anyone; there is nothing too explicit ;everything is intrinsic to story and character development.

I started Starblood late one evening, before I knew it I was half way through and the witching hour was long past. I finished over two nights.

The story grips from the outset, develops well and has great pace. The artwork and the text compliment each other very well so I’m going to give this 5 stars.

Now Psychonaut awaits!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Gothic Art and Occult Tale
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 16, 2018
(Rating: 3.5, rounded up to 4)

This is the first piece of work I have read by Carmilla Voiez, and it won't be the last as I have more of the author's books in my TBR mountain!

Beautiful Gothic artwork, emotive, sexy and dark. The characterisations of Satori and Lilith are full and strong, however Star is not quite as vivid as I would've thought she would be. The story is well done and wonderfully unpredictable. However, it did feel like just a single snapshot in time and I'm sure there is much more to the tale. I am at a disadvantage as I have not read the original novel (yet!), so I am not sure how the characters (or the story) were supposed to come across in the first instance.

Overall, an exciting graphic novel well worth a look if you like all things Occult and Goth.
