Garth Ennis is the award-winning writer of Hellblazer, Hitman, Punisher, Preacher, Pride and Joy and War Stories. He is much in demand for his hard-edged, wickedly humorous style.

A few things are different about this version of the Shadow. His dark past is as Kent Allard, not as Lamont Cranston as in the 1994 movie. Allard was in the orient, not supposedly lost in the Central American jungles as per the pulp storyline. The Shadow's powers go beyond clouding men's minds. Even the dead have to answer questions. and he seems to be able to hold the soul in the body long enough from a task to be completed, such as flying a plane. He can also read the fate of people in their thoughts, although this is, he states, a lot more accurate with children than adults. The Shadow's deadliness with a .45 is as skillful as ever, but machine guns and explosives are common weapons as well.
Not quite the Shadow of the pulps, nor the Shadow of old time radio, or even the Shadow of the 1994 movie, however, this version of the Shadow still provides full fledged pulp action from The Master of Darkness. I highly recommend this to pulp lovers anywhere.
Quoth the Raven
Second I would also like to thank the Authors and Illustrators of the comic book. The Shadow is one of my favorite heroes, and he has been put into good hands with Dynamite Comics. They didn't wimp out when it came to the action parts, good quality Shadow action. I had originally thought they were going to forget to have a part where the Shadow does his ever famous laugh, but only a real Shadow fan would remember to put in the Laugh.
I would however like to caution to the parents before you allow your kids to read this comic book. There is a part where there is a Japanese beheading suicide part, plus there is some slight bloody gun action, and some brief language. But besides that, the storyline of the comic is amazing, and heart-stopping. It had be gripping the pages, ready for the next page, I just couldn't put it down.
If I could, I would give this product a review of 6 stars out of five, Five stars for the product itself, and one extra for Amazon's amazing quality in Shipment. Thank you both, I will be purchasing more in the future.
Film attempts have watered him down, but most of the pulp and comic book ventures have kept the elements of violence and the supernatural. This graphic novel, while not exceptional, carries on that tradition.
The art isn't even close to the Michael Wm. Kaluta, Jim Steranko, or Bill Sienkiewicz heights. Even the usually exceptional Alex Ross cover paintings fall a little flat, but it's not bad. Garth Ennis is a bit hit or miss in my opinion. Preacher was excellent. His renditions of the Punisher and Nick Fury were not. This falls about in the middle of the road. There are a few clever, if not really obscure, historical tidbits thrown in, and the dark edge is retained. The story is a little too straightforward and predictable to really be memorable, but at least it's not a complete wash.
He's 10 steps ahead of the villains
he takes down
A master manipulator guiding his foes to their just reward and finishing them off with a harvest from the fruit of their dark labors. And enhanced with beautiful artwork awesome
The villains are shown to be quite despicable, bordering on disturbing and the Shadow gives them all (in some way, shape, or form) their deserving comeuppance.
