Editorial Reviews

Review

Daring to dig deeply enough into the Lone Ranger's character to make him interesting, but delicately enough to keep the classic hero true to his TV and radio heritage, no book on the shelves feels classically Western quite like Lone Ranger. ----Brian Warmoth --Wizard

FOR FANS OF... The nearly defunct genre of Western comics and better, for those who aren't fans of Western comics. DOES IT DELIVER? Epic and emotional, spare yet rich, Lone Ranger is worth its weight in (hi-yo) silver. And man, dem John Cassaday covers sure are purdy. A- Jeff Jensen ----Entertainment Weekly

At a cultural moment where it's hard to recognize the actions of many of our favorite comic book heroes, the bracing sense of familiarity herein, merged with truly modern art and cinematic storytelling, makes for a terrific ride. ----Newsarama.com

In this book, they show John and Tanto's lair. Where they get the silver, sleep, eat, and live while not saving people. It's the human side of the story you never get to see in the old TV show.

The author compares him to batman as his lair is a cave (the silver mine). I never thought of the similarities between Batman and the Lone Ranger before, but they are very similar.

He's also in love with his brother's widow, which is a bit messed up. That's understandable but still messed up.

I blew through this one and can't wait for the next book in the series.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars...is because I've recently reserved that for the MOST amazing! lol Anyways, this entire story is great. The art will make it even better, beautifully drawn and colored. I recently bought the Omnibus that just came out, and couldn't put it down. Hell...that was the 2nd time I read it, and was still blown away. I'm gonna start the 2nd Volume as soon as I can. They finished up this entire series a few years ago, right now the 2nd part is going on. Can't wait for that Omnibus!

I must respectfully disagree with the first review of the book. Although it doesn't quite reach the heights of the first TPB, it comes very close. I found the art to be quite well done and it maintained a sense of realism while never diminishing the hero that the Ranger is becoming. If there is any real criticisms I do have with the story arc is the strange parallel that the Ranger has with another hero born from the death of a loved one, Batman. Even the "batcave" is referenced. Although, I have to admit that that is a small caveat compared to the sheer enjoyment of the whole book. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

"Lines Not Crossed" continues the adventures of this new incarnation of the Lone Ranger and Tonto. A young man has been accused of murder. Rather than let a lynch mob have him, the Lone Ranger runs a gauntlet of angry townfolk to deliver the man to the law. This book collects issues #7-11 of Dynamite's Lone Ranger series.

Writer Brett Matthews continues to develop the you Ranger into the heroic figure we all know he will become. He also explores further the character of Tonto, with Tonto's tale of a wolf possibly explaining some of the character's motivations. Sergio Cariello's art continues to impress, and Paul Pope's illustration of the wolf's tale is also wonderfully done. The whole series still receives my highest recommendation.

If you liked  the first volume , then you should pick this up. The art continues to be great and the story and characters continue to have more depth than any of the old TV episodes I've ever seen. But it also continues to be darker in tone and more violent than the old TV series ever was.

The plot of this trade paperback centers around the Lone Ranger and Tonto saving a young Mexican teen from a lynch mob only to find out that the boy is not really an innocent. The plot thickens as the Ranger investigates both the crime and the system that was setting the boy up to hang. All the while both he and Tonto reflect on whether they are really so different.

Good and fun. Action, drama, and character depth. Still not really a children's book.

After enjoying the first Lone Ranger trade paperback edition I was looking forward to volume two. Simply put, the covers are far and away the most entertaining part of this series. The interior art is uneven and lacks detail. The dialogue is choppy and difficult to follow and the plot is missing me entirely. I'm not going to be purchasing volume three, but if a covers collection ever comes out I may pick it up.
