The Life Of Captain Marvel (2018) #1 (of 5) Kindle & comiXology

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 40 ratings

THE DEFINITIVE ORIGIN OF CAPTAIN MARVEL! Carol Danvers was just a girl from the Boston suburbs who loved science and the Red Sox until a chance encounter with a Kree hero gave her incredible super-powers. Now, she’s a leader in the Avengers and the commander of Alpha Flight. But what if there were more to the story? When crippling anxiety attacks put her on the sidelines in the middle of a fight, Carol finds herself reliving memories of a life she thought was far behind her. You can’t outrun where you’re from — and sometimes, you HAVE to go home again. But there are skeletons in Captain Marvel’s closet — and what she discovers will change her entire world. Written by best-selling author Margaret Stohl and drawn by fan-favorite comics veteran Carlos Pacheco, this is the true origin of Captain Marvel.

I love it when creators go back to the life stories of superhero’s. Carol is one of my favorite leads and someone a lot of us are waiting for (avengers 4 y’all). Everyone knows that she’s the strongest avenger (fight me) so it’s refreshing to know more about her back story. I always look forward for anything new and old of Captain Marvel. Well done Ms Stohl. This one is brilliant. Looking forward for the rest

It was a quick and enjoyable read. Carol is very much herself, and despite her mistakes, arrives for the right thing to do. This is very much about her family and leaves us wanting more.

I have been to many of the spots mentioned in the comic, and she has me hooked. Wish I could have purchased the following books as a subscription. Thanks.

Is this updated origin story leading up to the movie in March 2019? It will be interesting to see if any of this shows up in the movie.

So ... Carol Danvers is really Car-Ell? Her mother is Kree, which is why she has powers, not from Kree tech -- and she just happened to meet the original Captain Marvel as soon as he came to earth? This stretches the bounds of suspension of disbelief, people. I realize Marvel is trying to mesh with the movie, but this is ridiculous. You do realize comics readers don't care about congruence with movies, right? And most movie goers have contempt for comics, so you're not going to sell more comics.
At some point, this will be rewritten and thrown out.
It is a well-written story, and the art is nice, but the premise brings the rating down. (Sorry, creators. I know you were told what to do.)
