About the Author

Kaori Ozaki (1978-) is a professional comic artist and character designer. She made her debut in 1993 at the age of 15 for shojo publisher Shinshokan with the short series An Angel above the Piano. Her breakthrough work Immortal Rain earned her great acclaim globally as it was translated into a dozen languages and eventually published in the United States by Tokyopop. She worked on the eleven volume series for 12 years before switching publishers and switching genres with her first title from Kodansha's young adult magazine Afternoon, The Gods Lie.

So this manga book I ordered just yesterday after seeing a panel towards the end of the book of “princess” and the kid. I was intrigued because it seemed to be pretty good and had a nice story behind it due to the scene having a lack of context and seeming to have a huge impact. I truly loved the ending and it brought me to an awestruck feeling. I truly recommend this story to anyone who would like to have a simple but sweet realistic romance story. This is a truly sweet and amazing story although it being about an 11 year old kid. The ending leaves you somewhat satisfied but wanting another story to come (which unfortunately will most likely not come unless there’s already been one released which wouldn’t have much to go on about besides Rio and his relationship from here on which is furthermore hard to go on about).

This is a story about Natsuru, a boy, who forms a friendship with Rio, a quiet girl. He lives alone with his mom. She lives with her little brother, and takes in a cat that Natsuru finds. They form an odd friendship at first, and slowly grow closer. When Natsuru finds out some of the things that Rio has been through, has had to deal with in order to grow up and take care of her brother, he wants to help her, and take her away from it all.
Life can be very unfair at times, and for some people in particular. Rio has been through some very bad things, and she did what she thought she had to, to move past it. When everything is revealed, it's a sad story. But Rio and Natsuru still had their close friendship, even when they were apart.
Despite some of the awful things, this was a really sweet story. Bittersweet, maybe. And the ending is really nice. It leaves it a little open, I suppose, but I think it leaves it open for better things. I think they both were able to grow and be better despite, or because of, it all.
I really liked this story, and I hope that Ozaki's other manga gets picked up at some point. (I'm still holding out hope for Immortal Rain.)

Antes de mais nada, quero deixar claro que este mangá é totalmente em inglês. A Amazon deixa isso muito bem explícito, tanto no título quanto na descrição (que é toda em inglês). É também muito fácil de ver que esse livro está em outro idioma pela editora, que não existe no Brasil. Deixo este aviso para os que não prestam muita atenção e dão poucas estrelas dizendo que o mangá ser em inglês é um problema.

Em relação à obra, a história é interessante, porém eu achei que ela se perde um pouco em que realmente quer passar ao leitor. O começo dela parece ser divertido e que vai focar num romance de dois adolescentes. No entanto, do meio em diante a trama se torna um pouco obscura de maneira meio radical, e algumas coisas achei que não fizeram muito sentido para alguns dos personagens chegarem no ponto que chegaram, como a motivação do pai ter feito o que fez.
De qualquer maneira, o desenrolar foi incitante e a conclusão foi satisfatória.
A arte é bonita e agradável aos olhos, mas creio que não houve oportunidade para a artista desfrutar de todo seu potencial.
Não dou nota máxima pelos pontos que citei anteriormente, imaginando que poderiam ter sido melhores trabalhados.
