The gang's all here: Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, Moose, et al.. And all the best Archie writers and illustrators are represented, including Montana, DeCarlo, Schwartz, and especially the great Harry Lucey. The comic series was firing on all cylinders during the "Silver Age" of Archie, the 1960s. And while the art suffered a bit into the following decade, the writing and gags held up well through the 1970s.
This American series has been published before -- Archie Comics published the first paperback versions, and IDW Publishing did a fantastic job publishing those collections in larger hardcover format on excellent paper Archie Americana Volume 3: Best of the 1960s . What we have in this paperback version is the same strips rearranged in chronological order, again published by Archie Comics in mid-size format -- larger than Archie Digests, but not as big as the original comic book dimensions. The printing is excellent, bright colors pop and the line-work is sharp. The only minor downside to this edition is the paper is very thin, resulting in some ink bleed-through from previous and following pages.
But for $10, this collection can't be beat... the best decades, the best artists, the best gags, the crème de la crème of all things Archie.
