From School Library Journal

Grade 4–8—Seventh-grader Claudia Kishi is a talented artist and a dependable baby-sitter, but those things don't seem to matter to her parents, who keep comparing her to her brainiac older sister. When school ends for the summer, Claudia is looking forward to art classes and running a morning day camp for the neighborhood kids with her friends. Everything changes when her beloved grandmother has a stroke. Suddenly, Claudia finds herself taking on more and more responsibilities at home, while Janine gets to focus on her summer classes. Readers will relate to Claudia's struggle to understand her sister and cope with the changes in her family. This installment in the series adapts the seventh title in Martin's original sequence, and the story and characters still feel fresh nearly two decades later. Telgemeier's black-and-white illustrations are crisp and clear, while concise narrative passages keep the focus on the dialogue and action. Here and there, a wordless panel conveys much more than a simple description; if a picture is worth a thousand words, then the portrait of Louie the collie after the day-camp kids "make him look beautiful" must be worth a chapter or two alone. A concluding "Making of" chapter provides a peek into Telgemeier's process when adapting the original novels, which will be especially interesting to readers thinking of developing their own comics. The well-developed characters and familiar struggles with friends, family, and school will keep kids coming back to these books.—Beth Gallego, Los Angeles Public Library, Panorama City

From Booklist

In this fourth volume of the graphic-novel adaptations of Ann M. Martin’s Baby-Sitters Club books, Claudia and her older sister, Janine, must deal with the changes in their grandmother, Mimi, after she suffers a severe stroke. Creative Claudia doesn’t get good grades in school the way her sister does, and she feels that her family values studious Janine more. However, Claudia doesn’t notice that Janine isn’t too happy when she keeps volunteering to do everything to help Mimi after their grandmother comes home from the hospital to recuperate and relearn how to speak. Meanwhile, the Baby-Sitters Club’s new summer playgroup takes up lots of Claudia’s spare time, and she tries to help her regular club charge, who feels jealous about all the attention his baby sister gets. Telgemeier’s expressive black-and-white art plays a key role in the story here, as much of the interplay between Claudia and Janine is unspoken but clearly shown in their expressions and body language. A section at the end describes how Telgemeier approaches adapting the novels into a graphic format. Grades 3-5. --Kat Kan

I am a tween girl who hates graphic novels and love original format; but honestly this book is a must read! This book is a sad story with twists out of nowhere and make you bite your nails. A least it ends great ! I would have never bough the B.S.C. book series honestly because I DO judge some books by its cover, but after reading the WHOLE graphic novel series, I started reading the originals. Ann M. Martin NEVER disappoints so even for boys... this series is absolutely amazing. (I'm 1 2 yrs) trust me on this!!!!!!!!! I obviously recommend and if you at a parent trying to get your child to read something good, THIS IS THE SERIES! (Start with original versions and in order)

These books really engage my daughter in reading for fun! She is dyslexic and these are both age appropriate content and reading level for her.

Two sisters. One was artistic and the other was a genius. For Claudia, math wasn’t everything; after all, she had her painting class and the babysitter’s club. Well, according to her parents, if she didn’t pass her math test, she might have to give those things up.
Claudia and her sister were always fighting. Even after their grandma had a stroke, they were still at odds. In this case, Claudia becomes Grandma’s tutor as she recovers from the stroke.

Loved the colorful illustrations! I especially liked the rope swinging in the barn and the dog bath. Too funny! Story had more babysitting fun as always.

Sometimes you want to pour punch on her head, but she was still your sister. Will the two sisters come to a mutual understanding?

A sweet and fun read!

Great books once again...my sister and I read these books as young readers and now my twelve year old loves them too. The illustrated versions seem to be a hot ticket item. My daughter was so excited that I purchased them all for her birthday...and then read the 6th one in one evening! Great, and CLEAN storylines. Totally applicable to the age group. Would highly recommend.

I enjoyed reading this book because it has a tiny dash of drama in the middle of the book the story is about a girl called Claudia and she is good at art while her sister Janine is really smart but one day something terrible happened to a beloved member of her family and turns Claudia's world upside down.

I have few questions for the author:
For who did you write it?
Why did you write it?
What was your feeling wheb you wrote this book?
What made you write this book?
Why do Claudia and Janine have a fight?
Did you write this book by yourself?
If I have the opportunity to read the book I will read it again!!!

My daughter loves graphic novels, but it is hard to find ones displaying positive values and personal growth of character. Nice story. My daughter (7) likes this graphic novel adaptation and the others of the series as well. Seller has excellent customer service as well. Shipped all the way to Germany for us.
