Review

Eugene is an impoverished student at university. Because he's poor and only getting by because of his scholarship all he does is study. At his university there is a very high profile student there. It happens to be the prince of the country, Willis. Eugene doesn't have time to worry and speculate what the prince is up to, unlike many of those that live in his dorm enjoy doing. When the dorm Christmas party arrives Eugene is holed up studying when his roommate and other dorm residents ambush him and dress him in drag for the party. Since Eugene is nearsighted (his fellow residents hid his glasses) he stumbles right into the Prince Willis. Since Eugene has no idea who he's addressing, he pulls no punches in his comments. Willis thinks that Eugene is dressed this way for a gag and immediately is drawn to him. It turns out that there was a paparazzo following Willis and took a picture of these two in an embrace.

Eugene's life is virtually over. Willis is taken by Eugene's stuffy attitude and he will do anything and everything to have Eugene as a friend. Willis is extremely clever and tries to gain favor with Eugene. Eugene seems to be drawn to Willis as well but isn't willing to go as far as admitting that. Willis bombards Eugene with tons of unwanted attention, but he will do anything for Eugene. Plus, Willis is bored so he finds being with Eugene breaks the monotony of Palace life. Will Willis be able to break down Eugene's will?

In crawling through the web and reading other reviews for Tricky Prince I share a different view. The other reviews seem to enjoy the first half of the manga but then become disillusioned by the end. I enjoyed this manga from beginning to end. Initially when I first picked up a Yukari Hashida-sensei title I didn't think I was going to like it because the art was kind of distracting, but once I was drawn into the story I found that the art and story make Hashida-sensei one very cool mangaka. I will admit that if you've ever read her works you'll notice that many of her characters all look alike (like the character of Prince Sardony, Willis' brother, in Tricky Prince and Joe's father in Waru look like the same person just a different hairstyle). But I find Hashida's wit and comedy that you find in her works refreshing and fun. I laughed from beginning to end. Willis's attempts to woo Eugene all fail but he doesn't know the meaning of the word quit. Eugene is able to rebuff all of Willis's attempts where most people would give their right arm to be with Willis. This push and pull is what made this story enjoyable to me.

This is one of the final volumes released by Juné that has a dust jacket. It's glossy and gorgeous, but that isn't what makes this volume a good read. It's the story and the wit of Hashida-sensei that makes this a fun manga. If you are looking for hot, sweaty passion you aren't going to get it. It has an M-rating but it isn't because of sex (since there isn't really any). But sometimes you need to read a BL manga for something other than sex and Tricky Prince is a great one to curl up with for a good laugh.

If you want to avoid this title because of other reviews, that's totally cool, but just know that not all of us think that way and know that I found this to be a jewel in a mountain of mediocre BL titles. --Manic About Manga

Impoverished (yet gifted) peasant Eugene is interested only in his studies.

Apparently handsome young princes really dig nerdy young men who continually rebuff their advances. Or perhaps it's just the crazy ones? And so we meet the other lover in this novel, Prince Willis. He pursues (i.e. stalks) Eugene and plays with the boy much like a cat batting around a favorite stuffed mouse.

This is not your typical Yaoi romance, as the romance aspect is flimsy, but do not let that deter you. The draw in this manga is the wonderful interaction between Eugene (a comic straight man if ever there was) and crazy-trickster Willis (a comic if ever there was).

The prince is an interesting character, a pretty blond man who utters inanities with a completely straight face. And Eugene, instead of running screaming from the crazy, responds with a dry rejoinder every time. It's a blast to read.

Does this romance make a lot of sense? No. Is it a lot of fun? Yes!

The artwork is pleasing, but of a style that may be distracting as the lines are very flowy and light, not clean and with clear definition. Additionally, there is not very much actual Yaoi here, the sexuality stems from suggestions and allusions from the prince, which add to the fun.

The Manga The Tricky Prince is a hilarious adorable funny story of a University Student named Eugene being romanced by a Prince named Willis who will try to stop at nothing in order to have Eugene to himself while encountering a cast of other characters who either in love or extremely obsessed with Willis

This manga wasn't what I expected but it did have a good plot and the art work was good. All in all I rate it a three

One of my favorite yaois. A bit more funny than hot, but plenty of turn on moments in there. I will definitely recommend it to my fellow yaoi lovers and be reading my copy again.

The Prince is my favorite character so far and makes for a good read. I like the bantering between the two main character. It's definitely a cute short read.

I loved this! Prince Willis' antics are just outrageous and hilarious. He is the epitome of the cool guy who seems to have luck on his side. Any scheming against him either backfires or falls flat. Eugene is the studious scholar whose only concern is keeping his grades up so his scholarship won't be reversed. He cares nothing about royalty and social climbing which endears him to Prince Willis.

Good yaoi story with pretty artwork. Not that many 'mature' scenes either. Keeps you wondering who will target Eugene next!

This may very well be a cute and enjoyable story but I wouldn't know. The version appears to consist of hastily scanned pages from a paperback copy which results low quality pages with text so tiny it's impossible to read.

This was my first time trying to purchase manga in an electronic format. I have to say, I'm extremely disappointed and not likely to buy this kind of product in future... at least until I can be assured that these publishers or distributors will raise their standards a little bit and stop thinking it's perfectly okay to make people pay for such a substandard product.

They can do better. A twelve year old with a laptop and scanner could do better.

The Prince isn't accustomed to people saying no to him so initially it's about the chase but it goes beyond that for him

1.0 out of 5 stars kindle version is not readable

Do not buy this on kindle version, the pictures are poor quality you cannot read them. There is no way to increase the quality too. I don't know much about the story because I couldn't read it. When you zoom it, still cannot read it. Waste of money.
