Editorial Reviews
Review
"The tragedy proved to be a massive hit, receiving significant national news coverage and selling millions upon millions of copies. Spanning several different Superman titles, the arc was a blockbuster in every sense of the word... the final fight between Superman and Doomsday is a knock-out brawl for the ages."--PASTE MAGAZINE
"An epic and carefully constructed narrative."--BLOODY DISGUSTING
"Both in the universe and outside of it, DC toyed with the idea of a culture that had come to take the Man of Steel for granted. This was a time when heroes were getting darker and more extreme in their methods, and the style of the era didn't seem to allow for a character like Superman to keep his relevance. By removing Superman from the equation, we - and the characters in the DCU - learned how important Superman was as an icon, and his return was all the more impactful. This storyline brought the real and fictional universes together in a stirring realization of just how much Superman means to our culture."--IGN
About the Author
Karl Kesel loves his job far more than he has any right to. Over the past 25 years he has written, inked, and occasionally penciled most of the major comics publishers' major characters -- including Superman, Superboy, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and Captain America -- although he has an inexplicable fondness for minor, obscure characters no one else remembers.
Louise Simonson began her career in comics as an editor for Warren Publications, and went on to work at both Marvel Comics and DC, where she garnered acclaim for her writing on X-Factor, Power Pack, New Mutants, SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL,STEEL, and WORLD OF WARCRAFT. She is the author of the graphic novel Snow White and the Seven Robots.
Roger Stern has written for radio, television, the stage, and the Internet, creating scripts for everything from sketch comedy to flash-animation. For ten years, he was the senior writer of the Superman series, and has written hundreds of stories about such diverse characters as Green Lantern, Supergirl, Starman, and the Justice League for DC Comics; and Spider-Man, Captain America, the Incredible Hulk, and the Avengers for Marvel. His first prose novel, The Death and Life of Superman, was a New York Times bestseller.

The five primary artists on the main books Action Comics, Man Of Steel, Superman, Adventures Of Superman, Green Lantern (vol.3) do dam good jobs as DC wasn't really as dynamic in the as their competitors and with the often quick & muddy house style by new artists as seen on the annuals.
Both of the Return volumes do read a little more clunky then the first return collection printed in one volume, in my opinion its both the cover pages and the Here Lies pages as the chapter breaks, and most of the covers weren't as dynamic and more spoiler specific to those issues with the Action Comics & Superman covers being the worst

A very engaging conclusion to 'The Death of Superman', which reinvigorates the character of Superman and reinforced why he is necessary in any age.
