After reading this I can see why Super Man could be viewed as a Horror movie villain. The things that he did wouldn't fly nowadays, it was a different time. Still, a Superman horror movie would be awesome... Wait, there's Brightburn. It's old, dated, but still a good read. Plus there's a Lot of stories in this book!

Disguises, one-on-one lessons of retribution… more like Batman than the Superman that most are familiar. However, still worth a read to see how Superman evolved into a globally, beloved character

Is Superman your favorite superhero ever as he is for me? then this volume of 60 pages all in full color with his first adventures ever has to be part of your collection. This Superman defines the essence of the character than many writers have followed after so many decades: his love for Lois Lane; the big, dynamic and modern city of Metropolis; his heart to use his gifts for justice. He doesn't fly yet but he jumps higher than skyscrapers. Is him Superman or Clark Kent? interestingly his Superman is just Clark Kent without restrains, while his Clark Kent is him but with a touch of prudence to not show his strength. The difference with modern Superman is that the world then was simpler, even the rocket that brings Superman to Earth is just a rocket, no fancy computers or I.A.s onboard. All the technology of Metropolis and in the adventures of Superman in this volume could be built by purchasing tools from a hardware store, so the feats of Superman are therefore limited only to those of a strong man.
The first story shows the introduction to his character, when he decides to be Superman and asks for work in the Daily Star, there is no Daily Planet around but yes a Lois Lane. He races to save the life of a woman sentenced to the electric chair. The second story is about his way to end a war, it was pretty funny as he compels the villain to change his mind not by threatening but by showing him the reality. The third story is about miners and greed, which shows Superman cares for real world problems instead of subjective problems as opposed to made up ones. The last one is about football players, is a light story. I know the powers of Superman are inspired in popular fiction from the mind of Edgar Rice Burroughs, but nevertheless these stories and Superman himself look quite unique. A great beginning for a great age.

"Superman (1939-2011) #1" (DC, 2013) is a free Kindle publication presenting the first 60 pages of the original 1939 “Superman” comic books. If you’re willing to forgive the grossly outdated societal presentations, you’ll have fun with it. There are literally scores of these Kindle books for 99 cents each that progress through time. I found this freebie wonderfully corny. Solidly recommended.

This was a great story, how much Superman has change and this is just a classic. Has 3 stories and all are fantastic. Totally recommended.

Superman versus normal crooks. Good art and stories. No Super Villain. Very interesting as to how the character evolved over time.

After a quick summary of his arrival and upbringing as a Kent, goes into how he got his first job as a reporter for a Cleveland newspaper.

Most stories started in one direction then turned another. No super villains but crooks and thugs who deserved a comeuppance.

And “Supes” is no Boy Scout here. He is not afraid to use trickery into reforming folks. For instance, he once intimidates an arms manufacturer into joining a small country’s army so he can experience war from the frontline. The mogul learns he shouldn’t push countries into horrific conflict just to increase profit. Not something current Superman would do.
