Most of this book is goofy nonsense, and was hurt more then benefited coming out, before the OG was finished...However this doesn't mean these stories are terrible. It's very clear to see where the early beginnings of a lot recycled star wars ideas began here. Despite the goofy nature of this book, I was drawn into the how fun and surprising it all was in the end. Ideas made for the genuine attempt to tell a good story. Which is more than I can say for any book DISNEY marvel has produced in the last seven years. I do still feel dark horse will remain untouchable in terms of star wars comics, but this era of marvel is a close second.

Loved the ANH adaptation which is primarily exact and at times close to the script and screenplay. The continuing stories of Han and Chewie for instance really caught and established further on their personalities and interactions to each other and to Luke and Leia especially!
As I read, I was immediately hearing the original casts voices which made it even more entertaining to follow each and every word stated. The separate stories with Han and Chewie were developed well introduced other characters I would loved to have seen on the big screen.
The same with Leia and Luke's stories separately and together as well. The tale of Obi-Wan told by Leia from her father to her was well crafted in diving deeper into his backstory.
A classic collection of extended stories to read time and time again for this reader! The best thing about it is these are the first set of adventures to take place in between ANH and ESB beside "Splinter of the Mind."

First few issues that cover Star Wars movie - a New Hope - are classic and excellent. After that the comics go way down hill

Slip back to a time when Star Wars captured the hearts of kids everywhere. This is Marvel Star Wars; before both were absorbed by the 'woke' Empire.

Interesting take on Star Wars. Starts with a comic adaptation of the movie, which is seems to based off the same earlier script as the novelization (both have the the Biggs scene, both refer to Luke's x-wing squadron as blue squadron rather than red squadron.) Then introduces some new characters (such as the infamous big green bunny smuggler Jaxx)

This omnibus collection presents the first 27 issues of the original run of the Marvel Comics (1977-1986) series of "Star Wars" comic books. Beginning with the multi-part official comics adaption of "A New Hope" --the movie that started it all-- and continuing the adventures of Luke, Leia, Han, and their allies, this series is a must-have for any serious Star Wars fan.
As the first few issues were released before the film was completed, this volume contains several notable errors and variations, including deleted scenes and incorrect likenesses of characters like Jabba the Hutt. Although a lot of them became more believable in the post-Jedi stories, many of the supporting characters and storylines over the course of this 9-year run seem pretty ridiculous. I daresay that Jar-Jar Binks could've been an Academy Award winner compared to some of these characters.
That being said, you can't dismiss the historical imporance of this series to the franchise. No longer considered part of the official Star Wars canon, this series is still as enjoyable a read as just about any other Legends story.
Although the original hard copy by Dark Horse Comics is now out of print, there is anticipation that Marvel will soon re-issue the collection in a trade paperback omnibus, and I highly recommend seeking it out. Also, be sure to check out the other volumes in the series, particularly the incomparable 4th volume featuring the events surrounding "Return of the Jedi" and the search for Han Solo.

I remember this in comic book form as in first time around. Basically you get a new hope in its basic first time glory and really what follows is the adventures of luke leia solo the wookie etc. You get space pirates even a Don quixotie character wearing knights armour and using a light sabre... perhaps best though of what did they do after the death star was destroyed. Just remember it took years for them to make empire strikes back , so perhaps fans could endulge in the comic adventures ad well. Enjoy.
