Speed Bump Kindle & comiXology

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 115 ratings

This silver anniversary edition of Dave Coverly’s Reuben award-winning Speed Bump collects 300 of his best cartoons into one full-color book. 25 years of ideas. 25 years of drawings. 25 years of coffee. Man, that’s a lot of coffee. Coverly’s work has appeared in over 400 newspapers, including the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and the Detroit Free Press, as well as in Parade magazine, textbooks, greeting cards, and even on that internet thingy. Dry and gentle not only describes Dave’s hands, but his sense of humor as well. And while there are no guarantees in life, this new collection of Speed Bump cartoons hopes to make you think, smile, snort awkwardly, rethink, pause for a bathroom break, maybe get a second cup of coffee, and return to read a few more before realizing you really should be doing something a little more productive.

I had read his books concerning dogs and cats and I always had a great time. But having such different subjects sure tickles your funny bone.
Its a hilarious book that fits many styles of people. You just have to think st times still and its worth it.
I recommend it.

I own nearly every "Speed Bump" collection/treasury, so was concerned this anniversary collection would be all repeats. But happily, it was not so. Maybe about half I had read before, the rest were new. And as always, the panels were very funny and several literally made me laugh out loud - I particularly liked the man waiting at the Pearly Gates innocently wearing a clerical collar... Majority of the pages are in color. Nice hardback with funny strip printed on the cover too.

I got homesick and started reading the Freep online and discovered Speed Bump. The best thing in the paper next to the sports page.

One of the joys of "Speed Bump: A 25th Anniversary Collection" is the dry, laid-back humor that comes to life via Coverly's brief yet often hysterical comments that accompany many of his panels and, of course, the panels themselves that range from awesomely weird to surprisingly poignant to absurdist to silly to ever so slightly naughty. Coverly seldom goes political, but when he does go political it's typically in kinder and gentler ways that will resonate with a universal audience.

This 25th anniversary collection is laugh-out loud funny, a vividly realized collection of cartoons with typically simple phrases that will make you laugh, snort, guffaw, and possibly fart.

I mean, seriously. You know a book is funny when it's fart-out-loud funny.

If you know Coverly's work, "Speed Bump: A 25th Anniversary Collection" is practically a must-have collection. If you don't know Coverly's work, then this is a sublime entry point that will make you want to revisit past collections while watching for his latest work in a newspaper near you. If he's not in a newspaper near you? You'll probably want to move.

In the tradition of Far Side, Speed Bump is a great comic. I have a particular favorite, signed and framed on my kitchen wall.

I took this book with me to a doctor's appointment and got my doctor laughing, too. It is so much fun!

When I saw the cover, I knew I had to have it! Had me laughing out loud many times! His combo of funny lines, ideas and drawings is irresistible to me! I love his comments to his drawings as well.
