Erik Larsen is the Chief Financial Officer at Image Comics. He was an artist for Spider Man, then joined six other talents in the '90s to form Image comics. His character Savage Dragon is one of the longest running creator-owned characters in comic books to date.

Wer noch nie etwas von Savage Dragon gelesen hat, findet im Tpb "The kids are alright" einen guten Einstiegspunkt. Gleich in der ersten Ausgabe wird alles wissenswerte über Savage Dragon erzählt, dabei sollte man aber bedenken, dass er im Tpb vorher gestorben und sein Sohn Malcolm nun der neue Dragon ist. Larsen hat sich scheinbar einige Gedanken darüber gemacht, wie Malcolm Dragon sich in dieser neuen Situation zurecht findet und es klappt hervorragend. Malcolm ist auf einmal ein gefeierter Star, der das Erbe seines Vaters ehren will, den nun alle für einen Mörder halten. An seiner Seite kämpft seine Schwester Angel mit ihm gegen alte und neue Schurken, wobei besonders der Schurke Thunderhead überraschend menschlich wirkt. Gleichzeitig ist ihm der plötzliche Ruhm gar nicht so recht. Natürlich wird man mit den vielen Charakteren etwas überfordert sein, sollte man noch nie etwas von SD gelesen haben, aber in welcher Comicserie, in die man neu einsteigt, ist das nicht so? Mir gefällt diese neue Richtung, auch wenn ich hoffe, dass der alte Dragon zurück kehren wird. Larsen hat den Wechsel auf jeden Fall gekonnt gemeistert. Es gibt viel Action und sogar ein gewisses Soapfeeling wie wir es aus Spider-Man kennen und lieben. Wenn die Serie mit Malcolm so spannend bleibt, könnte SD sich zu einem echten Geheimtip entwickeln.
