This is a very investing comic series, and even though each issue is at least double-length, six issues wasn’t enough for the writers, so they have announced that it will be continuing, however there’s been no news of any follow-up.
I implore everyone who likes the creative team involved to pick up this series and (politely) ask them for more.

Captivating storytelling with amazing artwork! I’m always looking for a series that is going to stand above the rest and this one delivered right off the bat, I was hooked. I am a 47 year old Mom with lots going on so I need an escape that’s going to be worth it and I couldn’t put this down. Each page of artwork was so detailed and specific that it honestly I felt like I was in the book myself at times. The artwork itself was well worth a look all by itself. Couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for the next series!! Be cool as a tv show or movie adaptation as well.

Wonderful art and panels, fun twist on angelic/demonic forces style story line.

Fantastic new series with amazing artwork, great story and wonderful characters! Sacred Creatures goes back and forth between the present and Biblical times to tell an epic story that will take you on an unforgettable journey. This is not your run-of-the-mill comic book, so be prepared for some jaw-dropping developments. My only complaint is that we now have to wait until next year for Volume 2!

When I initially looked into this book, I was a bit naive and accepted the rave reviews from news outlets published on this page such as Publisher's Weekly. Granted, none of the reviews came from sources I follow but I figured, it was good enough. But I should've questioned all the 5 star reviews; None of the customer reviews go below 5 stars and most don't include the "Verified Purchase" tag (I read mine through a digital purchase on Comixology). I'm not going to make accusations, for example, like "maybe the reviewers are friends of the creators", because I hope that's not true and because I do believe there are people who are going to like material that I don't and vice versa. But it seems shady, doesn't it?

So why didn't I like it? Oh, where do I start? The writing is terrible! And the art seemed flat. I know this is an animation term but everything looked like it was "Roto-Scoped", which might explain why certain character reactions seemed off.

The entire plot is a structural mess glued together by numerous flashbacks that are mostly unnecessary. Typically a plot is meant to be a series of events that get the Protagonist to react a certain way. But the Protagonist barely makes any choices throughout the "story". Our "hero" is Josh Miller, a College grad, trying to prove his worth as a soon to be father. The problem is, he's woefully underdeveloped as a character. His struggles aren't unique from anyone else. Who isn't looking for a good job? Who doesn't want to be a good father? What I want to know is, what makes his character special? What are the roots to his struggle? And why, do the antagonists, choose him to carry out their deeds? Over anyone else? Throughout the story he's used as a puppet, effectively taking away his ability to make choices, but the problem is, the unique choices a protagonist makes, are what makes an interesting, developed character. And ultimately a developed character is what makes a story, a STORY. Because of that, the dialogue, for the most part, is flat. None of the characters stand out. And most of the characters, spend their time explaining what's going on and their motives. Did no one ever tell the creators, "less talk, more action". Don't explain, why you are doing these things, show me, let me see it through your actions and let me see it in REAL TIME. Flashbacks only work if they enhance the present time, otherwise, sneak it into the plot some other way.

It's a real shame because I love Klaus Janson's work, as an illustrator. His writing on the other hand, leaves much to be desired. I could go on and on about what didn't work for me but if the problems I brought up, don't bother you, maybe you'll like it. But for me, I'll be more careful when I see so many rave reviews and I'll probably just stick to Mr. Janson's illustrations (when he's illustrating for someone else) and stay clear of his writing.

I'd heard about Sacred Creatures through a friend, and I wanted something to read while I was in Mexico for a birthday trip. Super fun and compelling comic!
