But the showdown was a very satisfying ending to the first storyline.
I kind of hope they carry on to southern cross, New generation, or Sentinels next.
For those familiar with the cartoon, this volume follows the episodes The Messenger and Force of Arms, where several Zentraedi come and assist the crew of the SDF-1. It culminates in the massive battle where the SDF-1 and their Veritech squadrons, with the help of Minmei singing "We Will Win" as the distraction, are able to defeat Dolza's force. Here, I thought that was what we were going to get...but it just doesn't deliver that same "punch". I know that this is deviating from the cartoon in order to build it's own story but this battle was anti-climatic. Also, (SPOILER ALERT) the kiss between Rick and Lisa seemed so unconvincing and came out of no where. Yes, you had "hints" of their relationship due to my familiarization with their story, but as a new fan, you would have felt "what? Why? I thought Rick was with Minmei!" Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the love triangle story and have always rooted for Lisa, but this seemed forced. Plus, Breetai and company's change of heart and wanting to support the humans seemed rushed as well.
I am already 5 volumes invested in this story and feel they are rushing this story. I am enjoying the art work and the addition of the Invid to bring harmony of the story by introducing them early enough for new readers, but I am disappointed in this pace.
