Obstacles and foes abound. S.H.I.E.L.D are on their tails, Maria Hill having the difficult task of trying to ensure newly recruited Bruce Banner does not get involved; she fails. In the search to investigate the potential of the world computer Terranometer our duo encounters Mole Monster; son of Mole Man (love Betty's line: "Someone slept with the Mole Man?!"); they also have to do battle with its copies of Loki, Red Skull, Dr Doom and Ultron the result of which sets up another possible story line at some stage. There's naturally a run-in with Echelon, in this our heroes are assisted by...yes She-Hulk herself and an excellently portrayed Man-Thing, who at times seems the only one keeping their self-control.
The climax erupts in a crossing over of the Marvel 616 world with another one of those pesky alternative time-lines; 616.1 in which all available super-heroes are engaged in combat with the Super Soldiers of Echelon. The existence of the two also results in Betty reliving her perception of the incident which gave rise to the emergence of the original Hulk. The whole is gloriously spectacular as the action and the alternatives of characters slip in and out of the two realties; it's also a challenging read to try and keep pace of Who is Where Doing What and Why.
Without throwing in any spoilers there is a conclusion with the hint of later tales to come.
As intimated at the beginning, this story belts along in both narrative and illustrations, both filled with underlying humour (neat homage to Hulk's slapping down of Loki in the film Marvel's Avengers Assemble [DVD ] ) and compelling episodes, such as Machine Man's fight to remain an individual when interfacing with the Terranometer. These are just a few examples in a book that does not waste space in any department and can be re-read over and over to get the best out of each little detail; enjoy finding suprises!
To appreciate fully having Red She-Hulk: Hell Hath No Fury (Marvel Now) is advisable although at a stretch it would work as a stand-alone.
One of my favourite collections this year, and that's against some worthy opposition.
