Nocturnals Omnibus Volume 1 Kindle & comiXology

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 262 ratings

Dan Brereton’s lush, innovative, action-packed stories of supernatural menace and gritty heroics are finally collected in this first volume omnibus edition, starting with “Black Planet”, the Eisner-nominated graphic novel which kicked off years of captivating weird tales of horror and crime.

The Nocturnals revolves around the mysterious quest of underworld enforcer and occult figure, Doc Horror; his supernaturally-gifted daughter Evening (aka Halloween Girl) who carries a pumpkin full of haunted toys; the Gunwitch, a silent, two-gun revenant with an itch to kill monsters; the lissome wraith Polychrome, and a host of hard-boiled inhuman players battling hidden evils lurking on the outskirts of human knowledge.

This was great! A non marvel/DC heroes kind of thing. The art is great! Too bad the adult female characters don't have better or actual conceptualized clothing designs. That's my only gripe. I love Evening! There's a second omnibus, but this was the better one and that's all I need. I think I have even more issues with the adult women in the second one so I ended up returning it. I just want female characters to not have to be sexy to be visible. I would have loved to keep the Alphabet issue in the second omnibus and it's out of print by itself. Oh well! Love spooky Halloween stuff. This omnibus is staying put on my shelf!

It's the size of a DC Absolute edition for $30 retail. The painted artwork looks gorgeous and the book itself is incredibly well made.
Great value. Thanks to Dan Brereton and Dark Horse for this beautiful book!

This is one of the best comics I've read in awhile. I really can't over-sell it. The stories were fun, engaging & clever & the artwork is freakin amazing. But the real strength of the book is in the cast of characters. It's impossible for me to pick a favorite. Doc Horror, Halloween Girl, Gunwitch, Firelion, Bandit, Polychrome, Komodo, Starfish...all great! The only drawback was it was over too quickly! Can't wait for Omnibus 2! I must also mention the quality of the book itself. Just a beautiful book. I wish all books looked this good & were built this well. This thing ain't gonna be falling apart on anyone! You'd have to put in real effort to ruin this book. Solid bound with a picture hardcover.

I now have a new addition to my annual checklist of "Halloween media"(movies I watch & books I read during the spooky season each year)!

If you enjoyed the comics this Omni is a steal. Oversized and complete run. Includes original book and several mini-series.
