This was the final volume of the series, and while the Katana clan isn't exactly out of the woods, and Katana Raizo still has no wife or heir, the clan now has a castle stronghold and an army with which he can challenge his enemies, who have suffered a major blow and are divided by their leader's favouritism to his ex-prisoner, one of Katana's ninjas. They all want his love for themselves. Maybe the author will continue the series at some point and have Raizo choose a wife. I won't give away the last pages of the story, but it wasn't a complete surprise to me.
