Editorial Reviews

Review

Memoria is an engrossing tale of hard earned grief and deep buried secrets. Everyone’s working an angle, everyone’s hiding something. Cigarette smoke and sweat stained crime at its finest.”—Ed Brisson (Batman, Beyond the Breach)

“Cinematic, stylish, raw and unflinching, Memoria is an unforgettable crime comic that could very well be Curt Pires’ best work – which is saying a helluva lot. Paired with moody, stark visuals by Sunando C and Mark Dale, it’s a series that will haunt you for some time – in the best way possible.”—Alex Segura, (
Secret Identity, Star Wars Poe Dameron: Free Fall, The Black Ghost)

“Taut, enigmatic, and chock-full of intriguing mystery,
Memoria is one hell of a Fincher-inspired addictive ride.”—Michael Moreci (Barbaric, Black Star Renegades)

I had my doubts about this book but thought I would give it a chance. The art is muddy, murky even, and that tends to put me off. Turns out the art lent a great deal to the entire narrative. The tale is dark, confusing and riveting. It's quite like watching a very old movie; a film noir. The faces on the characters show their exhaustion with life and carrying the heavy burdens they are chained to. It's a really good read and well worth pushing through a slow start.

It has a very first-season True Detective vibe, only more nihilistic, as if that was possible.

I found it a little disappointing that they did not recognize the most obvious connections, especially as they related to the detectives own history, but they also were not supposed to be the best detectives in the first place.

In that respect, it was internally consistent, just as the dark tone was consistent, and that is an impressive feat for even a short series.

This is absolutely brilliant and I so happy that I stepped outside of my comfort zone and read this.
As the title says, this comic is not for the faint of heart. If you don't like things that can get a little gory, or on the disgusting side, this isn't for you. I mean, this a comic about two detectives that are chasing a serial killer for goodness sake!
I look forward to Pires next work, as I was rooting for the characters, and wanting to bash in a few heads myself.

Some times, you come across media that goes back to the basics of its intended purpose. Memoria does this right, using the storytelling through pictures to show what comic books are capable of and how they are best utilized. The story is dark and powerful, it’s message equally powerful than its most gruesome paintings. If you’re a fan of police procedural and mysteries, this one is definitely for you.

Captivating storyline, very Gritty. Art was a kep part of that as well. Would recommend to anyone who likes mystery, and gritty art.

Very gritty and great story telling. I absolutely enjoyed every single page of this and hope these Originals keep getting better.

This book is not afraid to be clear about his influences. You see it all there, David Fincher, Nic Pizzolato, dysfunctional cop pair. It’s not a perfect story and the ending feels rushed, but it does a good job presenting an intriguing mystery and very crude topics. The art is peculiar and helps with the mood. Felt like a mini season of True Detective.

If you like hard boiled crime drama then this is what you are looking for. Corruption and flawed characters abound

This is not an uplifting story. It is an old tale, the corrupt city and those that corrupt it, but it is well told. The art is vivid and expressive. I would not be surprised to see this appear as a HBO movie.

Memoria might feel like a routine serial killer mystery but it sure does not end that way. There is no happy ending and their are a few loose ends remaining but coupled with a fairly decent artwork, Memoria is a jolly good gripping read.
