Andy Lanning has been writing and inking comics for over twenty five years and has written and inked almost all of his favorite characters in that time. He is best known for his writing run (with Dan Abnett) on Guardians of the Galaxy, the inspiration for Marvel's #1 blockbuster movie directed by James Gunn!

Andy is also a celebrated inker, best known for his work with Phil Jimenez on The X-Men, Wonder Woman,The Amazing Spider-Man and so many more he's lost count!.

He has also worked with a dazzling array of talented artists: Mike McKone (Fantastic Four, Spider-man), Dave Gibbons (Secret Service), Mark Bagley (Fearless, Ultimate Spider-Man), Ivan Reis (JLA, Aquaman) and many more.

Since it's a collection, the artwork and writing vary, but it serves as a good introduction to the history of the Guardians of the Galaxy comic universe. Fans of the movie may be better served buying just the Prelude issues separately unless they want to get into the comic universe.

... die aber leider nicht alle Charaktere aus dem Film abdeckt. Abgesehen von den Reprints, die ja immer öfter am Ende solcher "Prelude"-TPBs zu finden sind (und oftmals signifikante Stories der Comic-Inkarnationen des/der Charakters/Charaktere erzählen), stehen bei den beiden Geschichten hier Rocket & Groot bzw. Nebula im Mittelpunkt. Beide Geschichten sind gut erzählt und passen zu den jeweiligen Charakteren, wobei es sich bei der Story von Rocket & Groot um "leichte Kost" handelt (soll heißen coole Sprüche und Ballereien), geht es bei der Hintergrundstory um Nebula wesentlich emotionaler zu. Was im Film zum Teil nur angedeutet wird, bekommt hier sehr viel mehr "Farbe", und man kann einige ihrer Entscheidungen im Film besser nachvollziehen.

Trotzdem bekommt der hier angebotene Sammelband von mir 5 Sterne, da beide Geschichten es wert sind, gelesen zu werden und einfach Spaß machen (wie gesagt, die Reprints lasse ich hier mal außer Acht). Jedoch hätte ich mir anstelle der Rocket/Groot-Story eine Vorgeschichte zu Drax, Gamorra, Ronan oder Star-Lord (z.B. während seiner Zeit bei Yondu & Co.) gewünscht, da Rocket und Groot im Film meiner Meinung nach ausreichend charakterisiert werden.

After watching "Guardians of the Galaxy" the movie, I was desperate to get the comic. This is my first ever comic and thus I am new to this wonderful world.

Safe to say I absolutely love it and I've already ordered more. I found it really useful to find out more of the background of the characters and found it so exciting to find them in other comics like the Hulk and Iron Man. I found the older comics really fascinating.

The artwork is absolutely beautiful and I was particularly captured by the art in Astonishing Groot (1959). It is interesting how the characters have changed over time. I am really excited to receive volume 1 in the post.

If you loved the movie and are interested in the backstory and also like the other Marvel heroes then I definitely recommend it. It is absolutely fantastic.

I expected little more than a movie cash-in here, but it actually a very entertaining collection combining the old and the new. The new stories, set in the Film Universe, are entertaining prequels to the movie starring Nebula, Gamora, Rocket and Groot. We then get three classic reprints featuring the comic book first appearances of Drax, Gamora, and Groot. As these also feature Iron Man, Hulk and Adam Warlock, these are great fun. A little dated sure. We end with a nice Peter Quill story.
A great mix of old and new, and a variety of writing and art styles, all for a very decent price. Fab.
