I've always said that Thanos is a tough character to write. He's complex but is so powerful that often times he's portrayed as nothing more than a thug. The likes of Jim Starlin, Kieth Giffen, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, and Donny Cates have to this point done the best job with him. Sam Humphries tries, but he fails to encapsulate the cold menace of the villain. This is coupled with his less than exciting portrayal of Peter Quill; Star-Lord. This isn't entirely his fault. With the success of the 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy film, changes made in the movie were adopted back into the comics. This was worst for Quill, who went from a noble space cop to unlikable outlaw. This started in Brian Michael Bendis's Guardians of the Galaxy (2013) series and those changes make the Star-Lord unrecognizable when he meets Thanos this time. These two have a long history but when that is referenced it feels like an entirely different world. I swear Thanos is taunting us in this as the first thing he does after escaping Avengers security is fly to Earth's moon and stack rocks in the shape of his love, Lady Death, that's it. The art ain't anything special either and I wonder if Freddie Williams II has done better work on other series. This should have been so epic for fans of the Annihilation era of Cosmic Marvel but was instead a pale imitation of the movies.

How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
