Contrary to some of the labelling, Kevin Smith did not write this book, Dynamite have used his character of a female Kato, Mulan, and given the job of writing a series based around her to Ande Parks. He does a decent job of setting up the stakes for what will take place in "Sins of the Father" and "Wearing O' The Green", and Black Hornet looks as cool as ever.
Ale Garza and Diego Bernard do the artwork which is pretty good throughout though they make Kato look a lot like Bruce Lee. There's also a lot of martial arts action which adds to the over effect that this is a lost film of Lee's, but it doesn't get in the way of the story.
The book is pretty good and enjoyable to read. The backstory to this new character was missing when Smith wrote his Green Hornet script so it was good to see those holes patched up here. Credit to Smith though, it was a good idea to have the new Kato be a girl. "Not My Father's Daughter" is a good, fun comic book. Shame about the film...
