Volume 2 of Juni Taisen picks up right where the previous volume left off. Three of the fights are already dead, and the rest are scrambling for position. And more characters get a chance to show off there skills.

On the plus side, the artwork continues to be fantastic. Akutsuki knows has a great sense of horror imagery and action flow. The series also featured new character Sheep. As the winner of a previous Zodiac war, his insights into the fight livened up the series well.

On the downside though, the character of Monkey was a disappointment. She and Rat get into an argument about her idealism, which was simply NisioIsin at his worst. He tries to set up a conflict around her helping people simply making them weak, but the world building is in no way enough to back that up. I'm hoping now that there are only a few characters left the next volume will speed up.

(Contains some spoilers.)
I think, once I knew more what to expect of this series, I had a much better time of it. I was so caught off guard by all the violence, I hadn't realized I was going into a battle royale type of situation when I started the first volume. Now I do, though.
This volume kills off a few more characters. The chicken, which is too bad, and a few others, though some of them unsurprising. We get to see what the drunken tiger has in store, which is interesting. There are a few characters that are clear front runners, but I think they're going to throw in a surprise at some point. I'm curious to see which character is the biggest surprise, or who wins this whole thing.
This series is a mess. It's a bloody, violent, cruel mess. I wasn't into it when I started the first one, but now I really want to know who survives this thing.
