I know you've all heard before, about things being a must-have if you're a fan. I am a major fan of the labyrinth, and of David Bowie, and more so staying true to the attributes of the character.
While, in my opinion, the manga "return to labyrinth" was a failure at capturing an accurate sequel of labyrinth and nearly ruined or twisted my memories the beloved movie where I had to watch the movie again to get the manga sequel out of my head, this on the other hand portrays a really good "prequel" if you would. The story is told as a story being told to Toby by Jareth, a fairy tale, and serves as a flashback to the events leading up to labyrinth, and perhaps even the creation of the Goblin King himself.

As the clock ticks ever closer to the thirteenth hour, Maria struggles through the canals of the Labyrinth alongside her peculiar band of companions, wishing desperately to be reunited with her son. While she may be no closer to the Owl King’s castle, Maria begins to uncover the secrets of the Labyrinth and her own power within the walls of this magical domain. But from deep in the shadows, the Owl King watches her every move, plotting and waiting to bring her demise by any means necessary. Written by Simon Spurrier (Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal) and Ryan Ferrier (Kong on the Planet of the Apes) and illustrated by Daniel Bayliss (Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Dragons) and Irene Flores (Heavy Vinyl), Labyrinth: Coronation Volume Two continues the bestselling prequel to one of Jim Henson’s most iconic creations.

This is just a lot of fun, while it references the film, there's its own tragic story unfolding that adds a layer to the film. this is such a bonus if you loved the movie. It's not required reading, it's not extraneous reading, it's just worth your time if you so endeavor.

This series gives a lot of answers to questions fans may have had. If you're expecting lots of Sarah and jareth, you will be disappointed. Instead it tells the story of who came before.

A worthy prequel/interquel to Jim Henson's Labyrinth

The books of Boom/Archaia are a treat.
They are truly capturing the spirit of the late Jim Henson's work.
I enjoyed already the works from the Dark Crystal line of books, they have been wonderful.
The same ist to be said about Labyrinth: Coronation. The only thing, I would have likey a little bit more likeness of the Goblin King to David Bowie, at least the artists could have given attention to the different eyecoloring of Mr Bowie.
But that is me complaining on elevated niveau. The art is, also like in the Dark Crystal line, very unique and striking.
And the story is interestingly settled as flashbacks during the story of the original movie.
Get it, read it, enjoy it. Recommended.
This review also goes for Volumes 1 & 3.

Die Geschichte hat mir super gefallen. Auch wenn es Englisch ist, kommt man gut durch die Geschichte. Der Zeichenstil gefiel mir auch. Ein Must-Have für Labyrinth Fans
