4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 1,111 ratings

Collects Immortal Hulk #1-5 and material from Avengers (2016) #684 by Jim Zub and Mark Waid.

Horror has a name. You’d never notice the man. He doesn’t like to be noticed. He’s quiet. Calm. If someone were to shoot him in the head…all he’d do is die. Until night falls — and someone else gets up again. The man’s name is Banner. The horror is the Immortal Hulk! And trouble has a way of following them both. As reporter Jackie McGee tries to put together the pieces, Banner treads a lonely path from town to town, finding murder, mystery and tragedy as he goes. And what Banner finds, the Hulk smashes! Elsewhere, the hero called Sasquatch can’t help but feel involved. In many ways, he’s Banner’s equal — and his opposite. Sasquatch is about to risk his life by looking for the man — and finding the monster!

Ever since this series was introduced I have been a fan of the premise and this run just keeps delivering. The storyline is terrific and the art work is excellent. The writer Al Ewing really does an excellent job of bringing the classic Hulk horror aspects back with a very unique twist. Add to the fact that my all-time favorite artist Alex Ross provides the covers of each issue and this is a hands-down winner of a series. So happy they are collecting it in graphic novel format; wish they'd keep the stories/issues together better than breaking them up into really small thin-paged works; I feel they could have have brought volumes I and II together as one book instead of these mealy ones but thats the money-hungry sales aspect of the corporate holders at Marvel, not the creators.

They took what everyone loves about the Hulk, a big green unstoppable destructive force, took away his dumbness and made him smart, but with a much darker and sadistic personality. Whereas Incredible Hulk might drop a rock on his enemy and exclaim "Hulk smash," the Immortal Hulk would tear their limbs off and bury them in a tomb they can never escape from right after getting a hole blown clear through his chest. Bad ass and surprisingly well-written, with great art to back it all up. Good stuff if you are a Hulk fan, giving him a more monstrous almost anti-villain air.

Simply amazing! Or is that incredible? The writer really gets the classic horror feel to the early Hulk stories and does a great job. This is one of the best Hulk comic collections I've read in years & years. It's dark, moody, and suspenseful all at the same time! Plus, he even digs deep in to old school Hulk continuity without making things difficult to new readers. Love the inclusion of some of the shout outs to old Hulk minutiae like Del Fry & Jackie McGee (homages to the old TV show), Trime & Buscema, and the gamma irradiated characters from early on in PAD's classic run. I really cannot wait for the next volume.

I like Hulk as a monster, especially coupled with excellent art by Joe Bennett. This one is pretty much a horror comicbook. Bruce Banner is an man presumed dead wandering the country in search of answers. And at night the monster comes out and is much more insistent in asking the questions. We're constantly reminded of a mysterious Green Door that is both a source of Hulk coming back to life and something much more sinister. So far the premise is good and this Hulk makes me think about no other than Solomon Grundy, one of his more intelligent versions.

Great comic book! Only thing I did not like was the packaging, they did not bag and board it, just through it inside a Amazon bag with my other item I'd ordered. Besides that, Hulk Rules ! 💪👊💚

A new run for the Hulk on the scary side with a great understanding of the character and a lot to look forward to in the next issues...

A dark, paranoid take on the green giant with fantastic art and a host of new concepts that seem to associate the Hulk with the occult. This is not only the best Hulk I've ever read, it's definitely one of the best new Marvel comics out today. A really original and fascinating read, highly recommended!

Held off reading for years, and regretting it now. Absolutely one of the best Hulk series period. Love the horror vibe, on the edge of my seat wondering what happens next.

The saga of Banner continues in a way that isn't a rehash or an excuse to resuscitate hulk but a real redirection of the tale of the monster as The Monster, the primordial evil. Loved the JungiAn references and mythological ones as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bruce Banner can die, but the Immortal Hulk lives on forever!

This was one of the best books that I have read this year, I have to confess here I've never been a fan of the Hulk but what Al Ewing did with this take on the character was amazing. I like the hulk here being cunning, intelligent and violent, he actually had a humanistic speech which I really like "HULK SMASH" can get tiring. The writer managed to bring the character back to his roots, through the years I would hear what marvel were doing the hulk (multiple hulks????) and I didn't like it. This run is similar to the 80s tv series staring Bill Bixby if you saw that show they explored the dark psyche of both Bruce and the Hulk. Bruce Banner is that show was on the run most of the time Al Ewing does something similar although Banner in this comic uses the power to fight for justice. Al Ewing gives both Banner and the Hulk different voices so when you are reading this don't worry about both of them being similar.

Al Ewing makes Bruce smart and intelligent though due to what happened to him in Civil War II he seems much more moody and distant. The Hulk on the other hand feels more like anti-hero, in the first issue he really hurts the guy who robbed the petrol store. When you see the Hulks face, just as he is about to hurt the robber you literally feel the terror in the guy. Check out those panels in the first issue you'll see what I mean. Mr. Joe Bennet's artwork is incredible here full of fun visuals and incredible cinematic action, I'm only familiar with his artwork in Spider-Man but in Hulk he really stepped up. All characters look clear and crisp. Joe Bennet draws a terrifying Hulk, heck he doesn't even look like a hero but more of a monster. Great job Marvel you have another hit on your hands!

Whatever the format is, you need to read this book. If you never read hulk before, it can work as a good introduction to the character and if you loved the 70’ show, then this is a must for you. It won’t disappoint. Also, this TP contains Alex Ross covers if that’s what you are after.
