Makes a great birthday gift for any fan - I read it myself, and it was really great! :)

Thanks again! :)

I bought this trade as I saw a lot of recommendations about this one, the art is amazing in it and it offered a fresh take on the hulk from the hulk stories published before this one, but the trade end on a cliffhanger and you must continue to read for a resolution.
I didn’t know this at the time but this trade is the beginning of Bruce Jones run, the run feature great artists but the story is slow and goes nowhere and it ends with a really unsatisfying ending , in addition the following hulk stories decanonized most of this run so while I recommend this trade I will not recommend to continue reading the run in the hope of a resolution as it unsatisfying and ultimately not even exist canon wise, not to mention the run offer average at best stories.

Brian Jones initial run on Hulk is great. Focusing on Banner and those who pursue him. It feels like a great reintroduction in an older character who has been carrying this burden for too long. Great story and with the book. 5/5 stars.

The Banner story line felt however feels like a retread with neither development or addition to the character or his pursuers. Also the drawing style was distracting to say the least. 2/5 stars.

I would recommend Hulk: Return of the Monster to anyone seeking to know more about the Hulk mythos. This book contains two very good graphic novels in one collection. The stories are a bit slow-paced but they are definitely worth it. Apart from action, these stories are primarily about the psychological insight into one of comics most complicated characters: Banner/Hulk, and his struggle in finding solace internally & externally.
All in all, a very entertaining, abstract presentation of one of comics greatest characters!

I really enjoyed the first part of this collection of comics ('Hulk: Return of the Monster') both in terms of story, action and art style. However the second half of the book ('Startling Stories: Banner!') was appalling, I really dislike the art style and I thought both Banner, Hulk and Doc Sampson were all wildly out of character. I get that this was supposed be a 'what if?' tale, but it's not shocking if the characters are not themselves. I almost regret buying this at all, but the first half was very good.
