Greenberg The Vampire Kindle & comiXology

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 9 ratings

Collects Marvel Graphic Novel #20, material from Bizarre Adventures #29.

Oscar Greenberg is not your typical vampire. He doesn't drink human blood, for one. He's a successful author — albeit prone to writer's block. And he's a good son, who's kept his secret from his dear old Mama. Oscar's also very much in love with Denise, the vamp who turned him. Their happily ever after might actually last forever — unless someone comes between them. Someone like Arthur Keaton: Vampire Hunter, who also happens to be Denise's brother! Then there's the demonic Lilith, who's long had designs on Oscar. She'll go to great lengths to seduce him, in a bid to usher the world into a new age of wanton lust. Can true love conquer all, even for the undead? Rediscover a forgotten tale of fangs, family and infatuation!

Not a typical vampire story, but that's why I enjoyed it. For anyone looking for a lighter, humorous take on the genre, check this out.

This volume collects both stories of Oscar Greenberg, a famous writer, and his all-too-human struggle against bigotry and writer's block. Told with a keen observation of the human condition, these stories are as fresh now as when first published.

This was a random find for me but since I like to check out all things "vampire" and this was a great price I picked up a copy. This reminded me of some 1960s style horror romance movies even though it was published in 1986 -- the down on his luck writer, the femme fatale and femme savior, the Jewish mama stereotype -- but all of that gets twisted as the story goes on. My only complaint is that the sections from Greenberg's "stories" are in tiny print and thus more of a challenge to read.

If you don't like sex, nudity violence, and playing around with religious myths and legends, this is not for you.
