About the Author

New York Times bestselling author Robert Venditti broke into comics the old-fashioned way—by starting out in the mailroom. He began working for publisher Top Shelf Productions in 2002, and within a few months sold them the script for The Surrogates, his first comic book series. The story was later adapted into a feature film starring Bruce Willis and Ving Rhames. Venditti went on to write the original graphic novel The Homeland Directive, as well as the graphic novel adaptations of Rick Riordan's bestselling Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels. In 2012, he helped relaunch Valiant Entertainment’s comic book universe by writing their flagship title, X-O Manowar.

Robert Venditti is a New York Times bestselling author of more than three hundred comic books and graphic novels. Some of his works include the monthly comic book series Justice League, Superman ’78, Hawkman, and Green Lantern for DC Comics, X-O Manowar, Armor Hunters, and Wrath of the Eternal Warrior for Valiant Entertainment, and the graphic novel Six Days, inspired by the story of his uncle’s participation in D-Day. Since Venditti took over, I've been patient in hopes that the title reaches the lofty heights it held under the command of Geoff Johns. This title starts off with a time jump from the end of the last volume, and these comics are contained in another volume of another series. The story is pretty good, it's nice to have the new blue guardians back, as well as having Sinestro make his return in this volume. Once again a new threat arises in the form of the new gods, seeking power to destroy Darkseid, and they believe that power to be found in the various lantern rings. Again, the story of the rings being stolen is only mentioned so you;ll have to buy other comics in order to read the actual events. Since I've mentioned it twice, that was my least favorite part of this volume, the missing stories. Sure the book itself will tell you it happened, but seeing it is better. Moving forward, the best part of this volume really comes at the end when the Guardians tell Hal that the corp's name has been drug through the mud long enough. Hal does something that has an incredible amount of potential and decides to take Krona's gauntlet and "betray" the corp. Of course the universe will forget everything if the leader is shown to be corrupt...right? Hal Jordan being a bigger renegade than he ever has could be some of the best story telling to come out of this universe and I am excited for the potential this decision has.

So you're probably wondering, should I buy this? I say yes, do it if you're a big GL fan. If you're on the fence then maybe you should wait and borrow it from a friend or pick it up at your local library...those still exist right?

Warning: the first half of this book collects four parts of a seventeen-part crossover, the first of which is only available in the Green Lantern/New Gods Godhead collection. The editor has added a couple of summary pages to try to cover the gaps in the story, but it is still exceptionally hard to follow if you are only reading this collection. The remainder of the book has some fairly dull water-treading exercises (Hal Jordan goes to a bar with Guy Gardner) before setting up the change in status quo for the post-Convergence adventures. It's not a waste of time, but it's not a very good collection, and I absolutely do not recommend it if you have not gotten the Godhead collection.

If you want to read the complete Godhead story, skip this volume. It contains only the GL issues of the crossover, comprising 1/4 of the entire story. You get paragraphs summarizing an excellent story, per DC Comics' awful trade collection practices.
The final 3 chapters of THIS volume deal with the aftermath of all Had has been through in this New 52 universe and he's tired. This part was a refreshing take on the hotshot Hal who is showing some exhaustion and who can blame him? He has the weight of the GL Corps' tainted reputation, lots of deaths, and questionable decisions coming to haunt him. I'm intrigued to see where Volume 7 takes us. I've not been a fan of Vendetta's arcs so far, so I am cautiously hopeful.

The Venditti fiasco continues

Since Venditti took over the GL title, he's been dragging it through the mud. This arc is no better than his other ones. The being starts off good, the middle is stale, and the ending Is garbage. If I were you, I wouldn't waste my money on this volume. I pray for the day Venditti is replaced.
