Because right now they know almost nothing.
First, they find and gain one ally, then they find and gain the alliance of a group, with all sorts of amazing powers and astonishing backstories but lacking enough in power to be open to adding new members,...
if they can gain their trust. All in all, it was absolutely fascinating!... So, why only four stars?
Well, in the last three chapters a fairly common old plot twist is revealed,... one I absolutely HATE and started to describe in the title of my review: meet this nice character, get to know her, get to like her, now watch her die! Note: This isn't like having a well-known character die, nor is it like when the Captain, the Chief Science Officer, the Chief Medical Officer, and the unknown Redshirt Yeoman "Smith", all beam down to the unknown planet together (Who is going to die?) Rather, this is a deliberately introduced and thrown away character used for the sole purpose of ginning up the angst.
Now, to be fair, I might be reading this partially wrong. This is the second time the Hero "dies" in just three volumes so there's not much doubt that he will be back (and what little doubt there is, is all but dissipated by the scenes from the upcoming issue), but this bit with the brand new character (with cute fox ears, yet!) is the most disturbing to me in the whole series (with a cliffhanger ending on top of it!), and I shall be waiting to see what the author does with it.
Note: This is an Ecchi, with female breast-baring, so Be Ye Warned.
Note: The series continues in Gleipnir Vol. 4 and Gleipnir Vol. 5 .
Story: 5 stars
Shuichi and Claire face their first real threat on the mountain, later meeting up with a group of like minded gathers and joining forces
The relationship between shuichi and Claire is progressing really well. It has so many layers and such that it’s very compelling. Also, most of the new characters also are somewhat interesting, except telescope-head. I love the the sword skull guy from the beginning. He’s fun and will provide an interesting third person to their trio
Art: 4 stars
The fight scenes ramp up in this and we get loads of new character designs that all look cool, if somewhat impractical for a certain someone
Fanservice: 1 star
After last volume, I wasn’t expecting much but the increase to two, extremely lengthy naked scenes was too much. One of them I can attempt to overlook since it makes sense story wise, and isn’t particularly focused on, but the other one almost made me stop reading. Not only is it sexual assault what happens, it is completely out of character and so obvious that the author just wanted to draw that, regardless of the story.
As always, the author continues their fascination with butts and breasts, but in context to many other manga this is only marginally worse, unfortunately. If you’re still able to avoid hating the author for constantly sexualizing the female characters, it’s fine. I’ll keep going a bit longer.
