Future State (2021-) #2: Aquaman Kindle & comiXology

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 14 ratings

Andy Curry, daughter of Arthur and Mera, has had a pretty terrible month. Jackson Hyde, a.k.a. Aquaman, won’t stop calling her Aqualass when she’s told him a thousand times it’s Aquawoman. She’s manifested a new power that scares the absolute hell out of her. Oh, and she and Jackson just got ripped apart in the midst of a cosmic space ocean and she can’t find him anywhere! For the first time in her 14 years, Andy’s all alone-and it’s gonna take her wits, her will, and every single lesson Jackson ever taught her to survive.

Hits like a crashing wave!!
After Kelly's run on Aquaman, in which wasn't terrible, but was lacking in ... basically every way; in creativity and character growth ( as if she really wasn't an Aquaman fan to begin with, but was petitioned to write it anyway....)- I wasn't impressed either, and I love all things Aquaman! I really wasn't holding my breath ( ha!) for Future State Aquaman. Aquaman has alway been Arther C, so seeing Aqualad take up the mantle was ... daughnting and left Jackson with big fins to fill.I figured it was a PC thing that would focus on that particular 2021 element and neglect everything else. ( *cough * KELLY) I was wrong.Im so glade I got this particular issue. As the biggest AQUAMAN fan I know, I grudgingly admit...This is the freakin best aquaman story period. I dare say it even rivals Drowned Earth.Yah.It's that good; the story; the fantastic art; the emotional depth. The action. !!! Both Jackson and Andy are badasses ( but not in that overpowered way)It wasnt edgy - but it was groundedIt wasnt dark for the sake of being dark - but it had shadowed elements that made the story juicyI closed the issue and "Damn!!!" Excaped my lips.Get this one.I got my heart set on getting the follow up!
