FreakAngels Vol. 2 Kindle & comiXology

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 29 ratings

Twenty-three years ago, twelve strange children were born in England at exactly the same moment. Six years later, the world ended. Today, eleven strange 23-year-olds are living in and defending Whitechapel, maybe the last real settlement in flooded London. They've made a new friend, and together they successfully defended their home from raiders — but the post-apocalyptic drowned London that the eleven Freakangels survive in is never a safe place, and never surrounded by friends. Night has only just fallen, but strangers already creep through Whitechapel with the worst of intentions and the weapons to see them through! Volume Two of award-winning author Warren Ellis' ongoing web comic, Freakangels, is here!

Anyone familliar with Freakangels knows that you can read this free every week, but this thing is so great that it is worth purchasing even if you have read the entire story to its current episode. Great quality book, beautifull art, and always great writting from the Master himself Warren Ellis. I bought this for my wife and she loves it, next up is trying to convince my daughter to read it. This is a great book (amd Scott Pilgrim)to indtroduce somebody to comic books, especially somebody not into super heroes. Support the Great comics you read even when you can read them free online!

volume 2 of this series was decidedly not as good as the first. i actually had to check it was the same artist as volume 1, 'cuz it was just less visually compelling (though still beautiful, and with a lovely color palette). it's prolly more like a 3.5 star, but i'll round up for keeping me interested enough to get the next one.
builds on previous story and you get to know the characters better, but there is no subtlety to the way things unfold... just BLAM, here's each character's deal. i hear they get better again- i hope so!

If you are a fun, you already know what it is about. If you are not, you are probably about to become one! Excellent work from two masters of the kind. I would not be able to favour either the story or the graphics, they are both amazing. And although anyone can read it for free at the Freakangels site ([...]), for a fun of the spieces it's a must have!

I started reading these stories online, but had to buy the books: first to pay the artists for their great efforts, second, to have the art in my hands for better appreciation. I don't have the full set yet, but I'm getting there.

A more modern midwich cuckoos.
And yes it is as good as that sounds.
Once again Warren Ellis mixes issues of survival, trust, family and history into a sci-fi tale that leaps of its pages with likable (and not so likeable) characters.

I was put off by the art in the first volume, but it seems to have actually devolved in volume two. The artist is a very good colorist (honestly), and some of the drawings of the town are really nice, but the figure work is lacking. Poorly drawn hands, stiff poses, ugly faces (and not even consistently ugly, either), repetitive talking head panels (and we're talking about quarter-page panels, too) - it kept pulling me out of the story. Even by manga-influenced art standards, it's not up to snuff.

And that's the biggest problem, I definitely want to read Warren Ellis comics, but it would be nice if he was working with artists that were as good as what they did as he is at what he does. As it is, I'm definitely not reading the third volume, simply because after two volumes, I'm already too frustrated with the art to continue.

I read the complete series off of [...] and HAD to buy the books. Incredible series, funny, great drawing. Plus the book is big enough to actually read (unlike some other print webcomics *cough*CAD*cough*). Can't wait for Volume 4.

Freakangels is one of my most loved comics. I read the entire thing online but had to buy it after I finished .

Whilst Jack and Sirkka wrestle in their relationship. KK and Caz reflect on their responsibility in building an infrastructure for Whitechapel in flooded London.Responsibility strongly felt by Miki, the Freakangel Doctor and by Kaiylin. the harsh Freakangel constable and policewoman. In this poetic an dark volume, another attack by a fringe tribe uncannily brings our twelve friends to an act of mercy and charity, strongly imposed by Miki, the real conscience of the group. But the comic and the poetic findsits wayamong the dramatic events. And Arkady is as sweet and surprising as ever.
