Though slightly dated, theses stories have stood up well to the passing years. The interplay among the various members of the FF family adds a dimension of heart to these stories that is seldom seen in sci-fi, super hero comics. This leads the reader to truly care about the characters and to root for their their success. Overall the stories are well plotted with artwork that is an integral part of the narrative. All-in-all a fun and entertaining read.

John Byrne’s famous run writing and drawing the FF! Love how he developed the major and minor characters of Marvel’s first family!

The best installment of John Byrne's mammoth run on this F.F. title. The Galactus storyline is the highlight in this volume: EVERYONE against the World Eater.

I have the originals, but the paper and color quality of these reprints are outstanding. This volume is worth every penny...

Nobody does FF like Byrne did. Truely one of the best talents to ever do the series-maybe second only to Stan & Jack!?!

I liked it so much when it was released for the first time... Today I re read it and didn't like it much.... A pity....

The title says it best. Don't get this though, get the omnibus that collects all of Byrne's work with the FF.

4.0 out of 5 stars The True Fantastic Four! From Your Childhood!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 18, 2005
With the movie due out soon, now is a good time to bone up on Marvel's First Family. After Lee and Kirby's original breathtaking run, the classic run on Fantastic Four was by John Byrne. When I was a kid, I can safely say that it was Byrne's art and writing that hooked me on comic books. The man could turn his hand to any hero and make them look cool and weave intriguing storylines around them. But his best work was on FF and Superman, both of which he effectively fixed after the characters were run down by lesser creators.
This volume features some of the early part of Byrne's run, including a fantastic Galactus storyline which holds the fate of Frankie Raye, the Human Torch's girlfriend, and a meeting with the Inhumans. There is also an obligatory Dr Doom story, which does not disappoint and a story featuring X-Men character, the Gladiator. If there is a criticism to aim at this collection, it's the flatness of the colouring which does not suit the glossy paper stock used, but this is a small niggle for what is a good couple of hours entertainment that you will want to come back to.
