The art is stellar, being both sexual and occasionally very violent, without confusing the two. Yes there is danger, yes there are highly sexual situations. And yet never once did I get that "Oh crap Emp gonna get raped" feeling, and it's all because the author thankfully avoids any "creepiness" due to an unspoke rule about not crossing the line from oogling Sups and tying Emp up to straight up sexual assault. So no worries there.
I cannot recommend this book series more. The straight up meta is reserved to the title pages, the short story format allows the author to give you the perfect length of story, and yes you'll get sex and fighting and honest human responses to superhuman situations.
Empowered really is an a very funny comic which I have been reading since the first issue a few years ago. I love how the main character is a complete goof, and I Love how many of the chapter breaks are not only 4th wall breaking, but EMP telling about things in the comic that she doesn't know about. This whole greet thing that i think is an evolution in comics is the main project of author Adam Warren, who has had some cover art done by other artist who are his friends, but he has by himself done all of the panels and writing. He does work on other comic for Dark Horse Comics to stay in their employ, but he has been using them as his main source of funding to continue his work on Empowered. And if you like this comic as much as I do, there are 6 volumes and a one-shot between volume 5 and 6 with more volume to come, and you will probuly also injoy his other works like "Live Wire" and "Gen 13'.
First, I'm not a huge fan of Manga, but the influence here works. The characters work, and they are unique. One of my problems with Manga and Anime is that all the characters look exactly the same except for their clothing and their hair. They are icons, not characters. I have the same problem with virtually every title that comes out of Top Cow. But here it works, and it works because each character is distinctive. They each have distinctive characteristics and are drawn beautifully. The art really stands out. The action scenes, the sex scenes are a blur of motion, but it's wonderful and it's funny. The writing is superb as well. You feel for the characters. You identify with Thug, and your heart breaks for Emma and there's not a guy alive that wouldn't love to be dating her. Her insecurity, combined with her charm and humor and sexiness all make her irresistible.
At first glance, I would've just though this was mere soft porn, soft bondage, and there's a touch of that, but it's brought to life with humor. There's something very infectious about the work. Warren's pencils are just amazing, clean where they should be clean, dirty where they should be dirty with an eye for the action and the character. The expressions are subtle and that makes it all the more human and all the more hilarious.
If I'm gushing it's because I've fallen in love with the series. Volume 1 is a collection of very short pieces, which serve to bring life and background to a few of the characters. Volume 2 has longer stories and is a little more complex (but not by too much) and has some beautifully drawn scenes. The pages explode with characters and action and humor. Warren is a real find, and whether or not he really considers himself an "artist", and whether or not he ever gets his perfect gig writing and letting someone else do all the tedious drawing, he and his work are just stylish and a lot of fun. I'm a new fan.

Very cool art style, hilarious dialogue and scenarios.
I'm absolutely going to buy Volume 2.

Toll gezeichnetes Comic das sich von japanischen Mangas und von den Heldencomics aus Amerika inspirieren lässt.
Die Heldin ist toll gezeichnet und der Witz kommt nicht zu kurz. Mal was ganz anderes...
bin gespannt auf die anderen Titel.
