The "Nemesis Contract" prologue starring cable was actually a pleasure to read, with Ladronn's art and Casey's writing showing a strong Kirby influence without copying him. Once the story gets into the "M-Tech" Deathlok series, however, it disappoints quickly. Casey settles into writing a noir-lite story with only two heavily telegraphed twists. But it's the art that becomes so frustrating it made me angry. Leonardo Manco somehow delivers top-notch cyberpunk action covers while providing only average supehero interiors for most the series (less said about fill-in artists, the better). The most glaring contradiction the two separate Deathlok designs for the cover and interiors. On the covers Deathlok is an homage to the original Rick Buckler look, a soldier mixing a few chromed body parts with futuristic weapons and gear. For the interior art, however, Deathlok is fully mechanical, covered with spray-on skin that disappears with the first gunshot, and popping up guns from his arm so he can match all the other cybernetic characters who've become Metallo clones, explained by incorporating Machine-Man tech without any of the original Kirby style for the gadgets..
Since Deathlok's continuity changes almost every time he's reintroduced, there isn't even any need for devoted Deathlok fans to own this book, as far as retcons and continuity goes, this book is probably the most disposable portrayal of Deathlok ever created.
