From Booklist

Face sores and severed ears ago, Deadpool was unleashed on the Marvel universe to rid the world of U.S. presidents raised from the dead and wreaking havoc on earth. In an over-the-top punch-up written by Duggan (Attack of the Show!) and comedian-actor Posehn, cult-favorite Deadpool gets the Marvel NOW! treatment, and this first collection does not disappoint. The premise is as simple as it is humorous: Deadpool is reluctantly commissioned by the global police force, S.H.I.E.L.D., to locate and rekill zombie presidents magically reborn, thanks to a misguided patriotic necromancer. A classic Deadpool comic comes preloaded with quips, banter, and revelry, but what makes this book truly shine is the intricate artwork by Moore (The Walking Dead, v.1, 2006). Moore’s elaborate spreads are often full of multiple moving parts with detail to spare, but he manages it all without the art feeling cramped. Duggan and Posehn provide an undead playground for Moore to sketch, from a bare-knuckle boxing match with Abe Lincoln to a zero-gravity romp with Nixon in space. This book should come with a ripcord. --Ben Spanner

Having read the more serious Deadpool comics out there, and despite the major personality shifts from funny but impressive Deadpool to all around loopy weirdo, I really enjoyed it. Deadpool comes off as a little more lost in the head and a heck of a lot less serious in Dead Presidents than he does in say, If Looks Could Kill. The ridiculousness of Deadpool having to eliminate the freshly resurrected presidents of America's past is so much fun to sit down and read. I say leave the brooding to Batman. Deadpool readers who aren't going in for too much seriousness, much like myself, should really get a kick out of this series.

The art work is just beautiful too. Clean lines, bright colors, and details on top of details makes you absorb the images and process them easily.

I really appreciate the overall look and content of this much more comedic Deadpool than I thought I would. If you're looking for something that's just going to make you laugh and not really think too deeply this is the comic for you.

With the upcoming Deadpool movie, there's been a lot of interest in Deadpool comics. The 2012 series is a great place for a new reader to start. The art is fantastic, the story is hilarious, and there's even a number of history jokes that had me in the floor laughing. It's smart, it's funny, it's Deadpool at his best! I love how Posehn and Duggan approach the character and where they take him on the journey throughout their run. In particular I loved Agent Preston, Deadpool's reluctant partner. When you've done this run, go back to the Classic Deadpool series and work your way forward from there.

I've been a huge Deadpool fan since his first solo series in the late 90's. This new take on the character is a lot of fun, very creative, and a nice divergence from standard hero books. The only downside is that for the first few issues it feels like the writer is still trying to figure out the 'voice' of the character, and often tries just a little too hard to make him funny. Many of the early jokes feel forced and unnecessary. As funny and silly as Deadpool and his stories can be, what makes him a strong character is that he can be serious, dark, and just as efficient as any hero or villain in the Marvel Universe. Overall, this is a good book and sets the stage for better stories to follow.

A thrill ride for Deadpool fans and newcomers alike! It's got it all, zombies, cameos, a million dollar bounty on every dead president ever, and best of all, Chimichangas!!! If you enjoyed the video game, than brace yourself for fourth wall breaking galore! A messy, colourful, humorous mess, this is a great introduction to Deadpool, and new Deadpool too! A wonderful journey, that can be finished in about three hours of reading, a buy worth buying!

You have to read this...you just have to. Hilarious and amusing. The current Deadpool ongoing series is by far the best current comic series and this collects the first story arc of the comic. Worth the read for sure, and its a good price.

The idea of someone resurrecting dead presidents and S.H.E.I.L.D. conscripting Deadpool to eliminate the problem to avoid bad P.R. is a great idea! And as you read the trade, there are some great highlights throughout, but as a whole, it was definitely not my favorite Deadpool story. I got into Deadpool in the Daniel Way writing era and the very first Deadpool ish i read from him was the first comic I'd ever read to make me uncontrollably laugh out loud! Ever since, every Deadpool trade I've ever picked up has had the same result of constant laughter paired with awe over the great action sequences. With this trade, I definitely smiled and may have even got a moment or two of chuckle, but it did not have me rolling like past 'Pool has. It lacked the page after page wow factor of the past, being replaced with the initial wow of the overall story and smaller jokes throughout. It wasn't bad, but I did not feel a strong motivation to buy the next volume. Rather, I now want to begin collecting more of the Daniel Way era of Deadpool. There is a secret that Dr. Strange eludes to with Deadpool that does spike your curiosity to want to read on in the Marvel Now stories, but not quite enough to be urgent about it. Eventually down the line i will pick up another volume with the hopes of learning about the secret and also hoping the new writers will have gotten more comfortable with the character.
Maybe I just miss the 'inner voice' speech boxes of the previous years, but overall, I do not regret my purchase, but it's definitely not my favorite.

I'll be honest up front: I'm a fan of Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn. I've been a Posehn fan since Mr. Show and Duggan since I discovered Posehn's Nerd Poker podcast.

That said, these Deadpool books are a lot of fun. They don't take themselves too seriously (as you'd expect); but between potty humor, hilariously ludicrous scenarios and ridiculously awesome action, Duggan and Posehn manage to make Deadpool and his allies genuinely interesting characters.

Highly recommend.

Dead Presidents is hilarious. This was my first real introduction to Deadpool in the comics. And it’s hard to explain, but it made me feel right at home almost straight away. This comic is written by a real comedian and is one of the greatest Deadpool runs in the history of the character. If you’re a fan of Deadpool who hasn’t read it, or someone looking to try his comics. This is the perfect volume to start with. 10/10

I am a late convert to Deadpool.
For years I have actually said I disliked him as a character as a concept and as a phenomenon.
I do not like comedy comics, I do not like slapstick and I do not like ‘silliness for silliness sake’.
I remember Deadpool’s original debut into the mutant universe as being typically nineties – all big guns, healing factors and mysterious backstories – nothing particularly remarkable.
Deadpool’s rise to ‘cult-status’ has therefore passed me by and I would – previously – have said I was thankful for that.
But...
The more I read of Deadpool the more I find myself sucked in to the ridiculous but grounded universe he inhabits with interest and a half smile on my face as I read.
This first volume in an extended run is a fine jumping-on point with a new set-up for the titular star as a tool for SHIELD and is written with an inexplicably satisfying combination of drama, pacing, humour, plot and even characterisation.
The magically-returned-from-the-dead zombie-Presidents are a far more serious threat than they have a right to be and there is gravitas alongside the ...well...absurdity of it all!
Worth the entrance fee alone for the exchange between ghost-Benjamin Franklin and Doctor Strange that has been – literally- decades in coming!
I never thought I would say it and I find it hard to explain why but..., I heartily recommend this book and I am picking up the next in the series straight away!

5.0 out of 5 stars Humour corosif
Reviewed in France on December 25, 2014

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Comic
Reviewed in Germany on October 26, 2013
