Top review from the United States

As a matter of full disclosure, this is the first Dan Dare story I've ever read. I picked it up because I listed to the B7 Media Audio Dramas.

This book collects two stories, both have great artwork and beautiful reproductions of the original magazine stories.

The first, "Mission of the Earthmen" is a bit tedious as Dan Dare and his sidekick Digby crashland on the planet and get involved in trying to end a war. The characters are uninterest, the story is pretty tedious and unimaginative.

"The Solid Space Mystery" is more like it as Dan and Digby have to solve a mystery back in their solar system as ships are being destroyed to invisible "solid space" and it's up to Dan to get things sorted. This is a really fun, sci-fi adventure and the type of thing I expected when I picked up Dan Dare.

Overall, the greatness of the second story more than compensates for the first lacklustre installment and the art is consistently good on both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dan Dare will never be beaten!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 29, 2024
My early years were taken over by the machinations of the Mekon especially when he set up his citadel. Dan Dare and Digby pitted their wits against the evil genius to save the planet Earth. It's always a pleasure to revisit those times. Britain was top of the world and the sun never set on the British Empire. Space International was always in London and Cliff Richards was in the charts. Glory Days!

If you are a die hard "Dan Dare" fan then this is for you! I have been collecting the reprints in hard cover for many years and if you are like me then you will want to add this little gem to your library!
I had not seen these stories before so it was a treat to read this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Series publication format has changed
Reviewed in Australia on June 24, 2020
The latest three books in the nostalgic series of vintage Dan Dare stories, published after a pause, have unfortunately dropped the dust jackets supplied with the earlier volumes. The printed covers are however in a consistent style. The stories are 1960s visions of a very British future, and remain reflections of their time. These books are high quality compilations, and probably of most interest to existing fans of the original magazine.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's nice to have these again
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 1, 2018
It's nice to have these again, but sadly they are not a patch on the original. Both artwork and storyline are a poor reflection on Hampson's genius.
