I really enjoyed this series and the few issues of Badlands that Ennis wrote. The crossed are awful, and yet...understated in a way. The point is more about what makes us human, and what we will do to survive. Who will we sacrifice? What parts of our humanity are we willing to lose to survive? In our struggle to survive, are we really any better? These are the questions Ennis makes us ponder, and the answers he forces us to admit to and live with. That's what made this comic great. The issues I've listed are well worth the read.
However, I have also read a number of the other, non-Ennis series, and I will tell you here, don't waste your money. Juvenile, gratuitous, and in the end, boring. No growth at all from the other contributors. I'm not going to buy anymore to see if any one of them grows out of being stupid and wasteful. It's a shame that Ennis' books have been outnumbered by pap.

Crossed is Garth Ennis' horrifically visceral exploration of the pure evil that humans are truly capable of indulging. Imagine, for a moment, the worst crimes against humanity. Picture the cruelest affronts to decency. Conjure your darkest nightmares... and then realize it could all be so much worse. When civilization crumbles in one terrifying moment; when people are gleefully breaking into unthinkable acts of violence all around you; when everyone you love has died screaming in agony: What do you do? There is no help. There is no hope. There is no escape. There are only the Crossed.

Crossed is so good, but not for the faint of heart. You need a strong stomach to enjoy it, hold on to your hats.

The entire series is incredible, but single issues are entirely too short. You might want to get an omnibus so that you can read all the books in one go. You'll definitely save money that way! Definitely not for kids!
