I thoughly enjoyed the Marvel family tale here.
Really miss this version of Captain Marvel and his family, with boy reporter Billy Batson
Hope they bring this Captain Marvel/Billy/Marvel family back and replace the current Shazam version which is a total disappointment.

Nice to see the original Captain Marvel back to DC. It's about time!

Silly fun good art for story

This volume of Infinite Earths has a variety of lost timelines and other-earths. The pre-Crisis Earth S (later known as Earth 5) has the original versions of Captain Marvel and Fawcett City heroes dealing with its villains along with an attack by the "Gaslight" (steampunk) world. The art nicely alternates between fifties style and the gritty steampunk world.
A few surviving heroes from Earth-4 face off against one version of the Legion of Super-heroes while two versions of Booster Gold are confronted by another version of the Legion. Yes, it does get a little complex by this point but somehow it sorts itself out. The final story- The Freedom Fighters of Earth X (or ten) from the 1970's along with Nazi villains combine forces to defeat the evil cyborgs from the Futures End timeline.
Four stars overall despite the time twisting and looking up who's who in Wikipedia. These two volumes can be read separate from the main title on their own and actually are better anyway. Nicely done and far better than the other Convergence titles.

It is definitely true that the convergence books were a mixed bag at best. Some were fun, some entertaining, some painful to endure. I agree with the other reviewer that this is the best of the bunch. The cover story, featuring Captain Marvel by Jeff Parker and Doc Shaner is my favorite of all the convergence titles. These two creators obviously were excited by the opportunity to revisit the pre-new 52 versions of the characters. The art is stunning, and having gotten the chance to talk to Doc Shaner at a comicon, found out that working on the original Marvel family was his dream project. It was just fun. (If you liked this book you should check out the Flash Gordon collection that the team also worked on together.) The story featuring the Charlton heroes versus the Legion was also a lot of fun, with the Ted Kord Blue Beetle getting a lot of respect by the creative team while not being always taken seriously by his fellow adventurers. I also enjoyed the Booster Gold and the Crime Syndicate stories. The Plastic Man story is interesting, but is much darker in tone. All in all, a fun volume, well worth the purchase.
