There is no reason why a comic book based on a dead license for an old game should be this good, BUT IT IS THIS GOOD. I hope they make a lot of Atari adaptations like this.

The comic follows the sole survivor in a post-apocalyptic world where the "apocalyptic" part was brought about by giant centipedes. It's surprisingly touching, often hilarious, and delivers on the sci-fi trappings of its unusual license.

I was recommended this book by an online friend about how great it was.
So I bought it and I honestly think it's terrible.
The only positive is that the art's pretty good.
It's nothing how he described and maybe because he wanted me to read something he knew I'd never read on my own. I'm a regular reader of Marvel and DC Classic Comics from the 60's thru the 90's.
The main and only character is a depressing drag on the entire story.
Plus, this story definitely isn't for me with a past same sex theme going on.
Blech!
Sorry I wasted my money.

Much better than it had to be. Still strangely awkward, like a blending of a solitary vision with some preconceived notion without fully serving either. And yet the talent is solid, very solid all around.

'Centipede Vol. 1: Game Over' by Max Bemis with art by Eoin Marron is a graphic novel based on the classic Atari video game. Sort of.

A lone survivor on a planet ravaged by space bugs spends a lot of time reflecting on his life and choices, while trying to figure out how to kill the rather large and seemingly indestructible centipede hovering over his city. There is a lot of introspection and reckless behavior until it culminates in an even weirder way than the rest of the book.

I'm not sure what I expected in a graphic novel based on a video game, and this certainly was different than what I imagined. Unfortunately, when it was all done, I wasn't really a fan. The art works pretty well and I like some of the color choices that reference the old game.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Dynamite Entertainment, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Deeper story than you could ever imagine for an adaptation like this. The artwork is also beautiful. Highly recommended for all.
