Rick Remender is the writer/co-creator of comics such as Deadly Class, Fear Agent, Black Science, Seven to Eternity, LOW, The Scumbag, Tokyo Ghost and Death or Glory. During his years at Marvel he wrote Captain America, Uncanny X-Force, Venom and created The Uncanny Avengers. His work at Marvel Comics is the basis for major elements of Avengers: Endgame, Falcon and Winter Soldier, and Deadpool 2.

He served as lead writer/co-showrunner on SyFy's adaption of his co-creation Deadly Class with the Russo Brothers, wrote/developed video games for Electronic Arts such as Bulletstorm and Dead Space, and served as an animator on films such as The Iron Giant and Anastasia.

He currently curates his own publishing imprint, Giant Generator, at Image Comics while writing the film adaptation of Cary Fukunaga’s Tokyo Ghost for Legendary and serving as executive producer on Fear Agent being developed by Matt Tolmach Productions and Point Grey through Sony for Amazon.

An Ending and Begining for Captain America

Rick Remender had the thankless job of taking over Captain America after one of the most famous/successful runs the character ever had with Ed Brubaker. Everyone has had there own opinion on the Castaway in Dimension Z story, but I was a huge fan. I like taking Captain America in a different direction, and have enjoyed the run as a whole. This volume brings that story to an end (of sorts), with character's stories being wrapped up or moved in a new direction. I liked the return to the original Dimension Z story, and how it led into the All New Captain America volume Now, everyone who has read any news story about Captain America know how this ends (spoilers), mainly that Captain America is old and the Falcon will take his place (there is actually a rather meta reference to it in the comic). Captain America losing the super soldier serum seems to be done to death (I remember him returning to the 90 pound weakling in the Mark Waid Run), as has there been a number of people over the years replacing cap in one way or another. Now it appears to be the Falcon. While I'd rather just read a Falcon titled Comic, I guess we'll see him be Captain America instead. This volume begins to show us how heroic he is, and give an early preview to his run. I will say, it looks like it will be fun, and I'm curious to see how the story progresses. I'd recommend it to those who started with Volume 1, but may not be a great starting point for this run.

Rick Remenber's run with Cap is up there with the all-time greats. It's an old school Kirby-esque saga that's too good and too much fun to pass up. It's fun, it's suspenseful, it's weird as hell at times. It's just great. I would say I didn't see the end coming, but Marvel spoiled the finale before the run actually finished. But it was still a really well executed ending.

This volume concludes the Dimension Z story that was started in Issue #1 of this series. Rick Remender's "Captain America" series comes to an end in this collection, and we are directed to continue the story in Remender's new book, "All-New Captain America."

For someone reading the whole of Remender's Cap run, this was a very emotionally satisfying conclusion.

This volume features many appearances by other Marvel heroes, including a huge number of Avengers.

SLIGHT SPOILERS:

I really like the two new characters (Ian Rogers and Jet Black) that Remender created back in Volume 1 that have been a major part of the story all the way through Volume 5 (and likely beyond).
