Absolutely lovely art, with very captivating stories that set my imagination reeling.

After reading the King's story on Becky Cloonan's Instagram I HAD to get this comic. The Hunter's perspective and what happens next in this same tale just GOT me. Like every heart string was pulled.
And the other stories to accompany it left me with a similar melancholy. I don't know what it is. I can't imagine it would hit everyone this way either, but if you are 1. Into feeling sad, 2. A hopeless romantic with emphasis on hopelessness or 3. Just really into art that conveys a thousand words in a single panel, I'd recommend it.

This is a really nice collection of three story stories with probably twenty or thirty pages of art in the back. The stories are good, but the writing isn't anything special and utilizes standard caption box narration as a means to tell the stories. The plots of the stories are kind of basic fantasy plans with supernatural elements. The best thing about this book is the art. Becky Cloonan's work is so clean and nice looking. She reminds me of Steve Dillon because of how good she is at telling a story clearly. All of the panels flowed, which really shows how much though went into the page layouts, which is something I appreciate. The coloring is very nice and adds a ton to the beautiful artwork. Really, this book is worth checking out for the art.

I have a lot of questions left over after reading this compilation, and I get the sense I'm supposed to. In some ways I prefer that, because my interpretation will change every time I go back and re-read it. You can see the artist's progression as the book unfolds; her understanding of the time period and historical costume is tight and nuanced. She has a natural flair for dramatic lighting--the woodcut styling reminds me of Albrecht Durer--and I'm incredibly impressed by the visual poetry of her panel composition. This is just a lovely read, highly recommended for fans of dark history and the macabre.

A professor of mine recommended Cloonan’s work to me. I hurried to find any books out by them and found this one to really satisfy me. These stories are short dramatic tales are told like riveting folklore and the art solidifies that point. Savor the pages as you read them, possibly even read it again; there is some deep stuff to pull from this book. I look forward to seeing more of Cloonan’s stories and I believe most should too...

The art throughout this book is stunning. Each story is short, but so well told that it will leave you thinking back to it throughout the day. I only wish there were more volumes.

Absolutely riveting from start to finish. I had no idea what to expect, and then I couldn't put it down. I reread each short story several times in one sitting. Becky Cloonan is brilliant and skilled, in both storytelling and art. I am a new fan.

Cloonan es una diosa, dibuja de una forma distintiva, estilizado, con trazos gruesos pero limpios, cada panel podría ser un fondo de pantalla o te dan ganas de colgarlo en tu sala.

This book was amazing. All 3 of the short stories are beautiful, haunting, and leave you thinking about them long after you finish reading. A bit reminiscent of some of the stories you'd find in the Witcher. Becky Cloonan is as good a writer as she is an artist! And the art here was fantastic, perfect for the stories being told. All I can say is that I really hope that Cloonan gets her own series in this style, so we can enjoy more of her incredible work! 5/5

Becky Cloonan is one of my favorite artists working in comics and this is a collection of her stories from when she was just getting started and was making short stories for Cons and the like. These stories however are very good and the art is amazing, despite how early this was in her career. If you area fan of Cloonan then this is a must have, but if you don't know her work well and want to know if this book is for you then this is a short description of the book in more detail: Its a set of 3 stories all revolving around tragic romances between a man and a woman, each story is different in setting but all are of the medieval fantasy kind of tale with bits of horror here and there.
