The issue starts with a Blue Beetle fighting Rack and Ruin, the flashes back to earlier in the day when Jaime Reyes is just trying to get to school on time. He gets a call from Billionaire Ted Kord and he has to be late, again, to school to fight for the greater good. Jaime has been melded with the scarab that makes him the Blue Beetle and Ted acts as a kind of back up and mentor to him. This time someone has painted a target on the Beetle's back and sent in Rack and Ruin.
I like this character and that Keith Giffen has a hand in it. I've been a fan of his for a while and seeing his name on a title means it's going to be a fun ride. I like Jaime Reyes, and it's nice to see some diversity in characters. Maybe this will spread out a bit to other titles. I'm not sure what Ted Kord will do, but I guess that remains to be seen.
I received a review copy of this issue from DC Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this comic book.
Oh well. It beats being dead. That was no fun at all. You want to know what death is like? Years and years of nothin followed by more nothin. So I'm feeling much better now that I've been rebirthed.
Let me tell you a little story about The Blue Beetle. I used to fight crime as The Blue Beetle with cool gadgets I made at my company K.O.R.D. Inc., but I had to retire due to a heart condition. Then I met a nice kid named Jaime Reyes who had a blue beetle scarab made of alien technology fused to his spine that allows him to transform into the new Blue Beetle. Jaime really wants me to remove the scarab from his spine but I don't know how. At least not without killing him. So I convinced him to team up with me and use the powers of the scarab to do the kinds of things that only superheros can do. Jaime does all the heavy lifting while I call the shots from my Bug Ship which is basically our flying Bat Cave. It feels great to get back out there again. So far we've faced a couple of baddies called Rack and Ruin. They seemed to be studying Jaime but why or for whom is still a mystery. I like Jaime but I'm not so sure he feels the same way about me just yet. Jaime is new to the whole superhero thing and I've been out of the game for a while, so we're not exactly on the same page yet, but we'll get there. Don't worry. I'll take good care of the kid....as long as I don't die.....again.

OK, I know who, but that raises even more questions. Rebirth is certainly right. Wonder if we ever find out how we got from there to here?
