Nathan Edmondson is an American fiction author whose work includes the titles Olympus, The Light and Who Is Jake Ellis?, all three of which are published by Image Comics. He also contributed to the Image Comics anthology publication Popgun. A native of Augusta, GA, he worked previously in Washington, DC before moving back to Georgia to write.Nathan has written Ultimate Iron Man, Ultimate X-Men and Avengers vs. X-Men: Animal Cruelty for Marvel Comics as well as Adventures of Superman: Infant in Arms for DC Comics.

Comic book and screenwriter Nathan Edmondson is a native of Augusta, GA. He created the hit comics OLYMPUS, THE LIGHT, WHO IS JAKE ELLIS?, WHERE IS JAKE ELLIS?, THE ACTIVITY, DANCER and THE DREAM MERCHANT. He wrote GRIFTER for DC Comics and ULTIMATE IRON MAN for Marvel Comics and he is currently the writer behind BLACK WIDOW and THE PUNISHER. He is also the author of SPLINTER CELL: ECHOES for Ubisoft. His Eisner-nominated book WHO IS JAKE ELLIS? is soon to be a major motion picture from 20th Century Fox. NPR has listed his work among the “Top 6 Comics to Draw You In” and USA Today and CNN are among those who have listed him in their Top 10 lists.

I am new to comic books and have only read the newer generation of comics. So take that into consideration for my review as I have only read Tony Stark Iron Man and a couple different Spider-Man story lines. Lastly I also started to read Black Widow 2019 No Restraints Play, however on the inside of the cover Marvel recommended this series first because the story lines tie into one another.
With that said of the meager amount of comics I have read; this so far is my favorite. The story is very intriguing so far and it's just a fun read. The art is nice as well but definitely not in the same style of today with all the pop and bold line. More grainy, but it fits well with story. Really looking forward to the next volume!

Natasha Romanov, Black Widow, has a lawyer, Issah, who sets up jobs for her that pay good money, but not outrageous money. She does not intend to make money on these jobs. She just plans on funding her Webs or her secret trust funds that help others and working for the Avengers doesn't pay enough to do that so she has to take jobs to do that. Of course, she chooses which jobs to take and they are vetted in advance.

On one job she is asked by a Mr. Lin to quietly find his illegitimate son who has been kidnapped. When she gets aboard the boat no one is alive. The situation seems familiar but she can't place why. When she goes back to see Mr. Lin, he is dead. Who from her past is behind this? Meanwhile, back at home, Issah is being threatened by someone who wants to get at Natasha.

The Avengers hire her to plant some bugs on an Embassy that explodes. She chases the guy who sets the bomb and he speaks Russian. The man behind the attack is Molot Boga who plans on targeting the Croatian Ambassador in Cape Town. The same Russian who calls himself the Hammer of the God shows up to kill the Ambassador, Black Widow must try to stop him and find Boga and figure out his end game.

These collections of stories are great. There's one where she's breaking someone out of prison who didn't do what he was accused of and things go horribly wrong. Every time she goes home there's a cat that waits outside her door for her. She refuses to let it in because that would mean the cat was hers. She has named it, though, Liho and hangs out with it outside and talks to it. This book concentrates on Black Widow alone with no appearances by any other Marvel superheroes to detract from its star who really shines in this comic. I really loved this book and I greatly recommend it.

Six issues in and the reader knows as little as Natasha does herself. Unless you're going to invest in the whole trilogy, don't start with this one. Yeah, the writing is good and I like the art, but these long story arcs spread over multiple volumes irk me.

I've been thrilled that Marvel has so many female-led series in their Marvel Now launch. While not everyone has been worthwhile (hello, Fearless Defenders) some have been stellar, such as Captain Marvel and now Black Widow. Of all the Marvel Now series, I was most looking forward to Black Widow to see how they handled a character that is now well known to audiences of the MCU, but is also an assassin. Would they try to “tone her down” for new readers? Happily, no. Edmondson chooses the perfect path – atonement.

The series follows Natasha as she atones for her past by taking mercenary jobs in order to finance a “web” of trusts and funds that support her prior victims. She has an attorney, Isaiah, who acts as both accountant and manager – arranging jobs and handling the money. The series is very true to the character. Natasha has a particular skill set she uses, whether the job is infiltration, rescue or outright assassination. The action is off the charts and perfectly captured with a minimalist art style. But, she’s is also painfully alone by her own choice. Having people (or even a pet cat!) in her life that could become targets would be a liability, but not having anyone risks her losing her own humanity.

As Natasha takes on new assignments, she begins to see pattern tied into a mysterious organization called Chaos which sets up an over-arching storyline. Her personal missions start to tie in with SHIELD, which results in a recurring role for Maria Hill.

Overall, Volume 1 is an excellent start for Natasha’s solo series, and is just as compelling as Hawkeye’s solo series. Highly recommended.

I have fallen down the Marvel rabbit hole, and as a woman, couldn't help but want to read this Black Widow series. We learned a bit about Natasha's backstory in the current MCU movies, but she remains somewhat mysterious. I am looking forward to the rest of the series as her character is further fleshed out. There is quite a bit of foreshadowing in this volume, and I look forward to reading the rest.

The art style is very beautiful, to me. Phil Noto has a unique style. The realism and soft color pallet coupled with the dark story line violence is very striking.

Also, I read this on Kindle. The user interface was very good and intuitive. I suggest trying out the sample if you want to see what it is like before purchasing. I found it very easy to read on my computer, iPad and iPhone 6s.

when I opened the comic up a page at the beginning was missing and only half a piece of it was inside. next, the binding of my copy seems very fragile. on the first page, I see gaps in the spine like it's about to rip later on in time. last, there was some stick stuff on the back of the book like there was a sticker. other than that it is in okay condition.

Phil Noto's art is beautiful, and just like the story, he only gives you just enough detail so you know what's going on. There's some similarities Bill Sienkiewicz's art as well. All in all, it's a great starting point for anyone who's new to the character to enjoy.

The reason behind my raiting for this is pretty simple.This is my first graphic novel ever, so I don't have any comparison. All I know is that I enjoyed it A LOT and that it makes me wanna read more graphic novels. I really liked the story, I REALLY love Natasha/Black Widow. And most of all, I really liked the graphics.

I don't have anything to complain about, so 5 stars, for sure. Now I need more!!!I'm also open for suggestions. So if you know any graphic novel that is a 'must read', please let me know :)

Seeing as Natasha seems to be being kept mysterious and vague in the MCU, it's nice to finally get a glimpse into her world and see a little of the projects she's working on outside of being an avenger alone with her male colleagues. And one of my favourite Natasha quotes is in this comic. "I'm not a rooftop-jumping archer, shield-wielding super-soldier or shiny metal philanthrobot."
