4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 251 ratings

As the Black Panther and an Avenger, T'Challa has had to save the world time and again -- but those duties pale in comparison to his responsibilities as king of Wakanda. As the nation rebuilds in the wake of revolution, T'Challa finds his people besieged by a massive monster tearing through the country, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake! From acclaimed novelist NNEDI OKORAFOR (BINTI, WHO FEARS DEATH) and illustrator ANDRE ARAUJO (SPIDEY, THE WICKED + DIVINE) comes an adventure set in the world of Ta-Nehisi Coates' landmark BLACK PANTHER run and told in the Mighty Marvel Manner!

Nice tease of what I can only assume will be an eventful run. Okorator transplants new blood into Black Panther. I've read her previous works and haven't found a dud yet.

Nice start. The artwork took some getting use too. Not the usual Marvel style. The story has me intrigued though

Great start for a new series. Made me want to keep reading. Also the Kinda Funny logo is on a poster in the one panel!

Nice opener to a new chapter. I'm looking forward to what comes next.

There are some subtle details I appreciated as a long time fan of Black Panther.

I hope everyone else enjoys it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A bold and beautiful introduction to Wakanda.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 26, 2022
This first part of “Black Panther: Long Live The King” introduces us to the vibrant, bustling city of Wakanda, where a youthful T’Challa casually relaxes on his couch. Disturbed from his rest by violent earth tremors and loud rumblings, King T’Challa looks through a telescope to see a giant glowing octopus-like creature rising from the ground in Godzilla fashion. As it moves closer towards him, emitting a noise so loud that his head feels like it will burst, he is knocked off his feet and the city is thrown into darkness. Was it real though? The creature, not witnessed by anyone else, is dismissed as an earthquake, leaving T’Challa wondering whether he has imagined the whole thing.

I really enjoyed the artwork, inked by Andre Araujo, it does a great job in conveying the colourful world and beautiful people of Wakanda. Araujo is an artist that I admire from his work on “The Wicked + The Divine” and his style really lends itself well to the Black Panther universe. The initial scenes, where T’Challa awakes to the sounds and sights of the earth opening up before him, do a great job in conveying the fear in his eyes whilst the horror unfolds.

I really enjoyed this. As someone who has little knowledge of the Black Panther series it was a great introduction for me. The story, penned by Nnedi Okorafor, was intriguing enough to make me want to read further into the series, and Araujo’s artwork is a joy. Recommended.

A nice start. The artwork is beautiful, but it did take some getting use too; as it wasn't the usual Marvel style. The story had me intrigued enough throughout the whole book and I'm definitely interested to read the rest in the series.A very nice tease of what there is to come! Okorator transplants a new blood into Black Panther, making this the beginning of the modern era of black panther
