About the Author

Tony Isabella is a comic book writer and editor, known for his work at both Marvel Comics and DC Comics. In addition to creating the iconic '70s hero Black Lightning, he also worked on several cult-classic series like Ghost Rider and Heroes for Hire.

Tony Isabella still has it. His script for COLD DEAD HANDS is relevant yet not groundbreaking. It's still a good read. The art by Clayton Henry and Yvel Guchet are grand visuals, which does a great honor to co-creator Trevor von Eeden.

DC has published the earliest Black Lightning stories by creator Tony Isabella and others in a couple of trade paperbacks (I'm still hoping for reprints of his collaborations with Eddy Newell) and reading these has only whetted my appetite for more Black Lightning. Fortunately, Tony Isabella is back at the helm of his singular creation Black Lightning in the miniseries Cold Dead Hands.
Cold Dead Hands is a reboot of sorts for Jefferson Pierce (Black Lightning). He's teaching high school, has a redesigned costume and is fighting a new iteration of Tobias Whale. The plot which involves Whale marketing alien weaponry to gang members allows Isabella to make some pointed messages about gun proliferation and police killing young black men. The main focus is on the heroism of Black Lightning and his heroism and concern for his troubled city. I enjoyed Clayton Henry's slick art style which complimented Black Lightning's electric style.
Highly recommended. Hope to see a regular series written by Tony Isabella soon!
